I have just got myself a Zumo 550, the battery cover is held on by a tiny torx screw, nothing I have is small enough. Knowing that a battery removal will probably be needed at some time in the units life, can anyone tell me what size torx I need.

There was a small allen key supplied in the box but that fits nothing else that came in the box :blast

Just pop along to halfords as and when it needs changing but unless your using it daily it could go for many years if only getting used occasionly :thumb2

You sure it's torx Keith? Mine's an allen key type (see below) and it needs a 2mm allen key to unscrew it.

cheers Jon, 2mm allen fits, I have had a magnifying lens out and it still looks like a torx head. I guess it must be a trick of the light.

Replacing the battery is not the issue - having to remove the battery becuase the Zumo locks up will happen so make sure you carry the allen key with you:thumb2

I'd guess on it being an imperial allen jobbie being as the merkins seem to like working in fractions and not easy peasy metric sizes.

2mm is just over 5/64 ths of an inch.

:D

My 2mm allen key measures 2.01mm

My 5/64 measures 1.95mm

I'd go with 2mm to save rounding off the head. :thumb2

Just a thought Keith but your allen head bolt probably looks like a torx because someone's used a 5/64 allen key on it & chewed it up.
