Not sure the best place to put this but I'm out in Nepal for 6 weeks travelling round, will put some photos up and write a few observations rather than a ride report if anyone is interested, whats the best size to resize pictures too taking into account the internet out here is very slow and unreliable?

Enjoy, I spent a couple of months out there a few years ago. Wonderful place.

Resize to 640x480, probably best compromise of size to view and upload.

Any particular plans for while you're there?

I'm out with work which is a good and a bad thing, bad because I don't get a lot of time off but good because I'm travelling to all the Gurkha welfare centres and hospitals in the areas predominantly used for Gurkha recruitment (the foothills). It does mean that I get to see places and people that very few tourists will reach, a few places don't have roads as such so it's on foot to reach them. I'm with a couple of other guys, they fix the med and dent kit and I service generators or anything else that I can fix. Today we were at a blind school in Pokhara fixing sinks and toilets, tomorrow I'm not too sure. So far we've been to about 5 hospitals, got about 30 in total so a few weeks left.

• There are absolutely no rules of the road, not one. The roads are a way from A to B, how you get there is up to you. Horns are used a lot, road conditions vary from shit to really shit, towns are rammed solid and out of towns are just plain suicidal. Vehicles are not tested and are driven to destruction, which judging by how overloaded they are doesn’t take long and end up with dire consequences. A truck overturned after it’s axle fell off and Friday. Horns are used constantly, not in aggressive manner just to let you know they’re there.
• Indicators are used to turn but if they want you to pass they will indicate right instead of left, they drive on the left sometimes.
• Water if unsafe, use bottled for everything. Food is generally ok from restaurants, do not buy from street vendors unless it can be peeled. Any fruit will generally be covered with whatever came off the sellers arse when he last wiped it.
• Food and accommodation is cheap, less than 50p for a plate of chips/curry, average hotel (spelt grotty) is £5 a night.
• Pohkara is the second city of Nepal, fine for a stop off but far to many tourists, it does seem though if you are a tourist (or traveller which is just a tourist with dirty air) it is mandatory you dress like a hippy, not sure why but always believed if you wouldn’t wear it at home don’t wear it abroad.

Oh current weather is 30+, just spent a few days off so back to work tomorrow, travel to the East of the country in a couple of weeks so expect the weather to get hotter.

Are you sure you're not in Istanbul???

First rain today, when it rains it really rains, lightning and hailstones, luckily haven't been caught out in it yet. Oh forgot, on driving flashing headlights mean they ARE coming through no matter what.
Haven't really mentioned the people, haven't found one person that hasn't been friendly and happy to meet us, Nepal is working hard towards tourism and the people will do anything to make you feel welcome. It's one of those cultures that the people will give you their last bean. I'm always slightly suspicious of anyone, 22 years in the Army teaches you that, as most countries I've been to everyone is either trying to steal everything you've got (Poland, Kenya) or just plain kill you(which is just inconvenient at times) It may have something to do with the fact we visit some of the more remote places and the locals see very few westerners, (the rope bridge in the photos was only completed the day before we arrived so we were pretty much the first group to see some of the villages on the other side).
Of out in the sticks tomorrow, not sure when I'll be back on, got loads of photos but resizing takes ages (bought my sons netbook and it has nothing on it to resize photos) so will update when I can and post loads of pics when I get back in April.:)
