I recently bought a secondhand 60CSx with Topo maps and it's been great for leading offroad rides, even when I've just made the route up from a map beforehand (and yes, there are plenty of limitations and Topo maps is rubbish, but the previous owner chucked it in for free, and it was a lot cheaper than a SatMap)

However, last weekend, it went a bit wonky. I had already uploaded the planned route to the live tracklog and I was following that on the screen. After about 100 miles of riding, I realised that the track was disappearing in front of me. I turned off all logging, but it still carried on deleting everything that was about a mile or so ahead. The tracklog is showing as 46% full and there's plenty of space in the SD card, so it's not just running out of space.

Turning the power off and on again didn't fix the problem, and a hard reset would have wiped everything as well. Fortunately, these were lanes that I had been on the week before, so we weren't held up too badly, but I'd like to find out what the problem is so it doesn't happen when it would be a problem.

A moderate amount of googling hasn't thrown anything up, has anyone else had anything similar?

This maybe your problem

Track log: 10,000 points, 20 saved tracks

taken from the Garmin site, if your track logs are bigger than 10K it may start to delete other points, if I remenber correctly you can set up the track to be recorded in different ways depending on what your doing, fixed time intervals, fixed distance or auto.

HTH in someway

My first thought too, but I've not got any saved tracks and the tracklog would have had 4680 points in it, so plenty of room.

I've done a full reset on it now, following a chat with Garmin support. I'll try and upload the same tracks again and see if I can make it go wrong again later.

It's an easy fix (I think).
Make sure you have 'Wrap when Full' switched off'
then
Go to Menu.
Go to Setup
Go to Map
At the top of the setup map screen there are some icons. One of them looks like a squigly worm. If you go on there it should allow you to increase the track points to 10000. The default is 3000.

With the 60 series the only way to upload a track larger than 500 points is to do it Mapsource. You open your track (anything up to 10000 points) in Mapsource and call it ACTIVE LOG and then send to device. It will load your track as the active log. If you upload the track as anything other than the active log it will truncate it at 500 points.

Boy am I glad I'd subscribed to this thread - I'd forgotten all about it.

I've just had a look and there's no way that I would have found that buried under all those menus, and I really thought I HAD been into all the setup options on it already. Anyway, the track points were set to 3000 and I've now increased it to 10000. I'm not going for a run for a while, but I reckon you've fixed the problem - thanks! :beerjug:

Right, time to go and explore all these new options that I'd not seen before...
