How often does the chain need oiling?
What is the best oil?
Considered fitting a scotoiler but apparently it's quite a job!

I do mine after every fill up approx 170 miles.

I have tried a few but prefer Castrol Chain Spray O-R It stays on and it's white in colour so you can see where you've missed.

Never bothered with the Scotoiler route.

Chain Lube!

I use MOTUL chain lube spray on Mrs Ps F650GS at the moment but on long trips I've just carried a wee bottle of chain oil and a small brush under the rear rack and painted the chain on the inside and outside every day or every other day depending on the mileage/weather....!(250 to 550 'gentle' touring miles)

My F650GS has some 'white wax' on it but since i've only ridden ninety miles on it it hasn't needed re lubed yet!:D Its also got a brand new chain and sprocket set and with only 4800miles on the bike god knows what the previous owner did to the chain....!

I'm not that fussed about what I use as long as I know the chain is 'wet' with oil/grease but not splattering everywhere over the back of the bike!

FP.

Scottoiler Touring Kit can be fitted in under an hour (in our workshop) & will lubricate the chain whenever the engine is running.

I managed 24k miles from the original C&S set, thanks to Scottoil. :thumb2

chain oiler

I am not big I am not clever but I fitted my scottoiler to my 650gs in under an hour, and guess what it works just fine

Scott oiler is the puppy. I top it up with Automatic Transmission Fluid or the old engine oil.
