650 gs Dakar ?????

Something I've noticed in my search for a bm, there appears to be two types of Dakar > the GS650 Dakar and the 650 GS GD Dakar replica is there any difference in these or is it just two ways of describing the same bike.

I have noticed a few of these now and the GS GD invariably is all white in colour ??

Hi mustard, welcome to the forum, sorry to hear about your wrist BTW, at least it gives you time to think about what bike you want next I suppose!

I had a CBR600F before switching to BM's so thought I'd better pipe up. Have you ridden a 650gs before? They do have quite considerably less power than the CBR, I had one on loan and found that the lack of BHP annoyed me after a while, though there's a nice little grunt to it, it felt a bit gutless on the motorway too. Nothing wrong with the power delivery though, it's nice to ride and you can still get into trouble, just slower than on a CBR. Other than that though I really enjoyed it, the things feel so lightweight and chuckable, you get the same sort of comfort and viewpoint as a "proper" GS too

I think you get a lot for your money with them, and it'll be better off road than a 11-12 too, just make sure you can handle the drop in power before committing I'd say.

Mines a GS GD in the Captian America colours (red, white and blue) also came in the White with black blocks down the side colour scheme.

I think the later twin sparks were then the straight Dakar and have a less flamboyent colour scheme.

FWIW the Captain America colour is the fastest

Cheers but I've just watched the CBR head off down the road with it's new owner, it was too easy to reach big speeds though and I think I've flirted with losing my license for long enough now, my luck was bound to run out....so GS here I come.........when I can find one

Good decision

Last two bikes I had before getting my first GS were a 929 Fireblade (made my back ache) and a ZZR1100 ( made my sides ache )

I miss neither... wished I'd discovered this place and GS's years earlier... could have saved myself a small fortune

hi mustard, i've just registerd myself, so not sure if i am doing any of this correctly. i am selling a gs dakar 2006 5300 miles, immaculate condition. top price is £4350. i am expecting to sell quick at £3900. If not of interest i am 5'10" ish and the bike fits me fine. you will love it, i sold my telefonica 600rr to buy this and my whole outlook on riding has completely changed, this is what biking is all about, being in tune with your surrounds and living the adventure, not head down and hope for the best. anyway, good luck.
