Hi

as subject really. When on the bike there is definitely power as it comes on with the bike and does the "shutting down in 30 secs" when switched off. Everything I have tried still means sound comes out of the built in speaker rather than through to my Autocom.

The 660 also sees the cradle as if I manually switch to "car", when I then put it in the cradle it says "switch to bike mode?". I cannot see anything in the settings to say "use audio out rather than speaker" so a bit stuck. Used to work fine.

Even if you don't know could you see if unplugging the audio from the Autocom changes anything (in terms of where the sound goes) as I am willing to accept it may be the Autocom that's died (although it too has power)?

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I "may" be able to borrow a mates bike cradle, do I need to power that to get Audio out, or is that separate?

cheers

Can you plug a set of ear buds into the the audio out to see if it's working, that would tell you if it was the cradle or the Autocom.

Bumkin - good idea. Just given it a go but the sound still comes through the built in speaker. Looks like I can borrow my mates unused 660 cradle this weekend. Does the font of knowledge reckon it'll be that?

cheers

Please update us when you have tried your experiment, as I am also interested. My 660 has the same symptoms - when connected to cradle, the sound still comes from the built-in speakers. I don't have anything connected to the audio out socket on the 660's wiring just yet, but I would still expect the internal speakers to be disabled.

New-ish 660 running version 4.00 as supplied.

Re bike cradle

I had the same symptoms with mine and it was the bike mount that was at fault. The mount was replaced by Garmin.

UPDATE

tried on my mate's bike and it went to audio out as normal. Updated to V4.00 of the SW just in case but no change - still audio coming out of the speaker. I have logged an isue on line with Garmin - I'll let you know what happens, but IMHO the mount is at fault.

CONCLUSION

It was the cradle. Garmin (Emma) repaired/replaced it and sent it back. Tested today off the bike and all is well (bust one failed off the bike). Will refit to the bike this weekend.

Another "worth buying Garmin for the after sales service" thread :D

cheers

I have discovered that the built-in speakers remain active until something is connected to the audio out jack. Once I connected a set of headphones, the sound switched to them.

Just an FYI so no one else thinks they have a problem when they haven't :blast

Mine has started doing this too - emailed Garmin service and waiting for an answer - was fine last week then just started blasting out prompts from the Unit speaker instead of Autocom.

Just to make sure I loaded 4.10 software but its still the same.

2 weeks on and still no reply from Garmin - their service seems to be terrible.

Give them a call - be prepared to wait on hold but once through to someone I've always had great service from them.

Rang the Garmin Support line today - they appologised for not dealing with me over the last 11 days. However because my unit was purchased 13 months ago then there was nothing they could do. So basically I am on my own with it.

What a bunch of wankers they are!
