7 day pass from the wife - where to go??

With the family holiday been and gone, and my other half had her 'solo' week in the sun with her sister before that, I am left with a 7 day pass and thinking of going away on the bike. Would like to get out of the UK as ive never been abroad on the bike. Happy to wild camp and tramp about a bit rather than spend much on accommodation, im not that fussed for creature comforts, but as better part of 2 days will be taken up just getting from Scotland down to Dover, I dont want to just randomly bimble about in France.

I know its vague, but any recommendations of routes that would be doable without too much of a rush in the short time that I have?
 
Hull to Rotterdam/Zeebruge and then do the Ardennes/Eifel ? Leave Scotland AM day 1, arrive Ardennes mid day Day 2...then have 3 full days and 2 half days touring round before back to Port for overnight ferry back and home for mid afternoon tea and tiffin on day 7.
 
cheers davey / mike. i like the idea of going from Newcastle, had only considered Dover as the ferry is £60 return instead of £280. ill have a shop about and see what options there are.
 
Going to ireland next year with mrs (who grew up there). Not completely ruled out though as a solo mission would be an entirely different experience ;)
 
Newcastle ferry is £208 - sounds a much better idea than Dover, cheers guys. Also get an evening on board which doesnt sound awful ;)

Have a word with Mickey on here, as he can do some bloody good deals on the Hull to Amsterdam or Zeebrugge ferries. And, imho, the P&O ferry crossings from Hull are light years better than the DFDS one from Newcastle
 
not so much the wife as the 2 young kids, very little childcare and both working. but thanks for your valued input

Europe is your oyster.

Try the Belgium Ardennes, followed by the Mosel valley, French Vosges and then tick off a few Swiss passes.

Maybe make a place your goal e.g. Grindelwald in Switzerland and take the train up the Eiger :eek: :thumb2

Newcastle ferry definitely, fuck travelling all the way to Dover fae Fife. You can be in the Black Forest by late afternoon the following day but there is a lot more to Germany than just that, try the romantic road, it's ace and stretches all the way down to the BF.

Yorkshireman coming out now..
What you have to remember when you do long ferry crossings and shorter riding is that you're saving tyre wear and the mileage mounting up that tips you closer to the next service...as well as th fuel and perhaps an overnight B and B...all things considered, the longer ferry with cabin isnt much more expensive but far more relaxing than the slog down England (or France if you do the Plymouth/Portsmouth to Bilbao or Santander) :beerjug:
