701 long range anyone ?

I really hope you don’t get bored and sell it quickly. I’ve absolutely no regrets at all about doing the conversion on my 501 even though this year has been thrown into the long grass by the bat muncher and it’ll still be in my garage next year and hopefully things will have settled down next summer :beerjug:

As for the question of can one bike do green lanes and long days out with luggage; of course they can. I’ve used mine on local green lanes and done 500 mile days on it fully loaded but I’ve yet to combine the two.

I don’t think I will.
Ok,it will have set me back about £12k when I’ve finished but I’ve got a bike with an all day comfy seat and 300 mile range that weighs about 100 kgs less than a GSA.
It should be capable of touring and venturing as far off roads as my limited ability will take me.

I've always liked the look of the 701 (despite being a 690 owner!) but I wasn't that enamored with the look of Long Range version.

Your conversion has completely transformed it though, in particular the front end blends in with the rest of the bike much better.

That is now a very nice looking bike and it will serve you well for touring both on and off road - enjoy!

Nice work. :thumb2

The bike certainly looks better with the addition of that Nomad tower. If Husky fitted a version of it as standard I’m sure they’d sell more 701LRs.

I think if any manufacturer sold something similar with a useful screen and kept the weight down they’d sell as many as they could make but it’d take sales from other models in their range so it’s not going to happen.

My goal was 130kg wet, a 150 mile range and capable of being ridden on near enough any surface but it cost a lot of money to achieve it and I don’t think too many people want a solo bike with those specs. Arsey has taken a more sensible approach but taking a sensible approach has never been my strongest point when it comes to motorbikes :D

doesn't an AJP PR7 fit that brief?

165Kg. That is somewhat heavier than I thought it was. A lot heavier actually.

Similar to the 690/701 fully fuelled? Does that sound about right?

I'm still wavering about potentially going AJP/701 and selling the 1190..........still! :D

Sorry Arsey, I'll start another thread when I get a bit more decisive ;)

Standard 701 weighs 146 dry so about 158kgs wet ( 13 litres of fuel and 2 ish of oil)
701 LR weighs 155 dry so about 177 wet (25 litres of fuel plus the oil)

your 1190R is about 237 kgs wet so about 80kgs more than a 701 or 60 more than a 701LR, but of course the LR carries more fuel than the 1190 and will do 300 miles on one fill up.

Do it, but sell something else :)

If I get one it'll be new and, prob a 2021, so that would be the 1190 gone and another to fund it. The Guzzi stays no matter what, it really is a keeper. The sidecar is the only bike Amanda will now go on since I tried to kill her so that stays (for now) ~ that just leaves a shinny blue Spanish bike................. Hence my prevarication.

These AJP things are they not around £9k - your 1190 must be close to that I’d it not?

Once you pay extra for the obligatory power up kit and a remapped ECU they are the same money as a 701, then factor in a few bits'n'bobs for either bike and neither is going to be cheap.
I've not seriously costed the value of the 1190 but off the top of my head, 2014 with mid 20's miles = 7k(ish) :nenau I'll need at least another 3-4k.

My 690 has had an extra 5 litre fuel tank added (Rade Conversion) and a few other bits like Perun rack, engine bars, scotts damper etc.

I have weighed it and fully fueled it comes in at 164 Kgs, so about the same as the AJP, but a lot lighter than a T7

Pretty much anything is lighter than a T7 isn't it? :D

Thanks, appreciated :)
