was just wondering if anyone could tell me why my friends 58 plate 800GS has fuel range on his trip computer and my 30 years 60 plate, which does display mpg, avg speed etc... does not have the fuel range feature.

I believe it's because the fuel tank is such an irregular shape that the fuel range is only accurate when the tank level has dropped to around half empty. Above half the range is given as an estimate, indicated on the display by the symbol >, below half the reading is accurate. I have a 10 plate F800GS and it does have the fuel range facility and I have found it to be really useful on a long run despite the above.
I think BMW had a large number of complaints from owners believing that the display was faulty when the range on a full tank appeared to read constantly around 125mls and then would start to reduce as the tank level went down so they simply did away with the facility.
I rode a 12 plate a couple of weeks ago which did not have the range facility.

i have a 2010 model and it shows range to empty very useful feature. i am waiting on a new trophy model in next few weeks so i can presume it wont have it? not good:(

Customer power I am afraid, it only worked once range got to just above 100 miles and wasn't always accurate at the bottom end. As customers couldn't use a bit of noggin it was easier for BMW to remove the feature.

When was it removed just out of interest? Mine is a 2010 60 plate. The r1200gs range seemed pretty accurate. I don't mind not having it, just wanted to make sure mine wasn't broken

Not sure mine is a 10 plate 30 year and has the fuel range. Heard that the latest software update does away with it too. Mines in for it's service soon so will find out if I lose my range if the software gets updated.

I like the range indication so won't be happy if it is removed.

Mines an 08. It used to display a full run down when you filled up. Then a software upgrade changed it to >. I preferred the original setup. However, it's all bit irrelevant, as you don't really need the 'range left' until it's getting low.
