Hi,
In a nutshell, past history, just over two years ago, when I got the bike with 43k miles on it, it had uncomfortable vibration at over 60 MPH.
Took it to South London M/C who tried it and said "Put thick oil in and get shot; the big end has gone"!
Slightly unhappy and loving the bike, I continued to ride it. Any way, 21k miles later, used weekly, abroad four times plus other stuff, I know the problem is to do with carbs. alright, throttle bodies!!
I balanced the right carb to the left the other day, much smoother, better power on take up, but hunts on the overrun. so, I slacked left cable a tad, matched the right and more hunting.
So, I tightened left hand cable, balanced the right to match, now the powers down, a bit rough but no hunting.
I'm now convinced the problem is with the TPS.
Have anyone had experience of fiddling with it.
I know how to balance carbs, I've had 4 cylinders and other twins, but the GS is an absolute pig; to balance that is:)
I love the bike, but balancing the carbs seems only half the battle. Any advice, besides put it back in the right place, before I remove the TPS and shout at it?
Cheers
John

Having said what you have done with the throttle bodies, what have you done about the valve clearances and rocker end-float clearances?

Bearing in mind I've only balanced the bodies.
I did tappets not long ago.
I recently fitted a new choke cable. Nothing done with end float.

Worth going through the lot, clearances and end float first then another go at the balancing again, theres a good writeup on IBMWR oilhead technical, careful setup can make a big difference with these bikes, I use a homemade manometer to balance the bodies.

So it's not something to do myself?

I;d have a go and get to steptoe. Leave it with him as long as he likes:D

I'm going to mototech in lisburn to get my similar sorted. Once it's set to factory settings (running well) you can do it yourself. That's what my receipts tell me.
