Rode 60 miles last Sunday afternon, washed the bike (sponge and garden hose not pressure wash),went to put it in the garage later on that evening and the bike would not fire up it was trying but not starting ,My first thought was that I had flooded it as I had gave it full choke as it had laid up cold for 4 to 5 hours .Any way a week down the line its still not starting ,plenty fuel ,battery fully charged ,and getting a spark at both plugs .Inoticed that occasionaly its backfiring and when you burl it over with the plug out its sparking very fast as if its about double the amount you would expect it to.Im thinking ignition system but unfortunately I dont have a donor airhead to test the components .Any help would be much appreciated Chaps .Cheers:beerjug:

On my R100gs, over winter, choke used to stick, bike would turn over ,check it's operating ok. Little bit of TLC:thumby:

If not that and you have a spark?.

Someone with more brainpower will be along shortly.

I noticed that occasionaly its backfiring and when you burl it over with the plug out its sparking very fast as if its about double the amount you would expect it to.

Remember that Airheads have 'Lost Spark' ignition - e.g. both plugs fire every revolution (not what you might expect on a four-stroke).

This means that they are firing on the exhaust stroke so, if there's un-burnt fuel & air in there, you can get a backfire.

It sounds as though you need to drop the float chambers and check for water :augie.

Good luck :thumb.

Bob.

Try dropping both float bowls and checking there's no water/blockages in the small jet in the corner where the choke takes its pick-up.

Had the tank off last night Jaber and gave everything a once over .Ill take it back off tomorrow and run through the connections a bit more attentively .Gonna give it a wee jag of petrol in each cylinder and see what happens .Cheers :beerjug:

Crisis over ,basically went through all the connections ,cleaned plugs ,Steptoes kettle over the carbs trick and a wee jag of fuel into the cylinders full choke and it started instantly .Happy but none the wiser on the initial cause :nenau:beer:.Pub Time I think
