I took this picture on holiday, It took my memory back to earlier times.

It looks so easy to clean, its so simple and uncultured. Shaft off in 20 mins, Gearbox out in 30, clutch changed and all back together in a few hours. No real worries about the final drive blowing up, they were almost indestructible.
I had one for 5 years without any mechanical problems, a few electrical but easily fixed.
OK a good example was probably only 60 bhp and top speed 110 but I never used all the power back then. Probably be crap to drive now after having the new things, but this bike with up to date bits on would probably be just as enjoyable to ride as the latest 1200LC and will probably last a lot longer.
Rose tinted glasses or what.
 
I have a r60/5 from 74 in the garage and love to get out on her, totally different from the modern one, more character!!!

Actually with slightly upgraded brakes I could be quite happy on a /6 today. You're right about their simplicity of design. An behold, it has real fenders! And mufflers somewhat parallel to the comfortable flat seat. It also came with a real tool kit and an owners manual showing how to maintain it.
 
Mine also had a hand pump which fitted inside the frame top tube.

Most from about 1978 or so onwards had a security lock there; the hand-pump mounted sat between two lugs, on the left side of the rear sub-frame.
