So before the weather turns & these big holes fill up again (that’ll be a couple of years)I thought I’d have a ride around the big reservoirs local to me in Wharfedale, Washburn & Nidderdale North Yorkshire just to see what all the fuss is about.
I started at Lindley Wood Reservoir in the Washburn valley just north of Otley.

Photos looking up & down the Washburn valley. The flourishing lush greenery is normally underwater & the waterline would at the tree line.
Onto Swinsty & Fewston further up Washburn.

Swinsty looking down the Washburn valley to the dam from the lower carpark. For interest the former England football manager Gareth Southgate lives at Swinsty Hall situated in the woods to the right of this photo.

Fewston looking towards Blubberhouses from the dam wall that separates Fewston & Swinsty. The water level would normally be on the tree line.
Next onto Thruscross, the former but now flooded village of West End.

Thurscross looking up the Washburn valley from the dam wall. Once again the normal water level would be on the tree line.
If you zoom in on the 2nd photo you can still see the old dry stone wall field boundaries of the former village. Further up & around the corner there is the ruins of West End church & a pack horse bridge.
Onto Grimwith in Wharfedale next.

If you zoom in you’ll see the sailing club here are still enjoying the water.
I then rode back to Pateley Bridge & on past Gouthwaite reservoir in Nidderdale to Scarhouse & Angram Reservoir at the head of the valley.

Last 3 x photos at Scarhouse Reservoir. Didn’t have time to walk up to Angram but you can imagine the levels there. If it doesn’t rain soon we’re all doomed …

I pass. Chelker reservoir most days. It is still full which is very odd compared to the others I have ridden past this summer. Gouthwaite was very last week.

I understand Chelker feeds the Bradford area & is fed by the Wharfe. I passed it recently & noticed it wasn’t as depleted as those here. Don’t know why. Yorkshire Water control it…

Thank you for posting.

Proof that you don’t have to go hundreds of miles from home, in order to have a good time.

Was up at Scar House Reservoir last week. Super ride across the moorland west from JB’s homeland…
Hearty, filling breakfast at the farmers market, too…👍
