I know there have been a lot of negative posts about the 1200GS but im still a newbie and have only had mine for about three weeks or 1500 miles but ive been loving it and thought a bit of positive for prosepective buyers wouldnt hurt.

Its just fun to ride, any excuse and im out on it. I buy my lager by the can so I can keep nipping out.................

the icing on the cake was taking the kids and wife on it this weekend (no, not all at once) they all had probably 30 mile round trips.
They all agreed it was comfier and a better ride for the pillion than my previous bike.

So, what was the previous bike
some sort of road rocket ????
nope
it was a Pan European ST1300

you just wouldnt have thought it would you.

...we'll have none of that here on the 1200GS board. Doom and gloom only please. Hasn't anybody got a knackered final drive / corrosion / fuel pump problem to discuss?? :)

I'm with Red on this. The 12GS has changed my whole outlook on motorcycling. I now find myself chugging up the tiny little Warwickshire lanes that I've been avoiding for the past n years.

It's a great commuting bike, but it is also good for rideouts.

OK, the 1200 might not have the sheer bulk of an 1150, but as I've got a bad back anyway, that's a rather good thing.

The Canbus is not an issue and all my extra power accesories have been installed to work round the Canbus, rather than trying to work through it.

It might develop one of the so called "faults", on the other hand it might not. If it does, it will just get fixed.

I am in total agrement with the above. I am a recent convert to BMW, coming from many years of Honda ownership (250, 400-4, 600, 750, 1000 and 1100). The 1200 is probably be the best 'all round' bike I have owned. I still have a Fireblade in the garage but its off to a new home come Spring.

I haven't suffered from any problems (touch wood) but if they turn up I will have to deal with them.

redcastle - there are many many more satisfied riders on here and elsewhere than the 'moaners' :thumb

...it is possible to be a satisfied moaner.

I think the 1200GS is a great bike - but my wife wont ride on it, much preferring........................................ my old Pan! Cant make up my mind whether that pleases me or not. :nenau

Must agree with the original post - my wife MUCH prefers the 12GS to previous Pan ST1100's ands a ST1300 that I have owned. Longest run 540 miles in a day. :)

Nice to see a little positivity on this thread. Every bike I've owned has broken down bar my 03 Speed Trip and my Husaberg 650, yes it fecked me off but why worry.
My fuel pump problem was fixed sharpish by BMW, and I don't suppose it'll be the last breakdown I have. :nenau
Once the warranty dies, then I might worry a little more though!
Meantime I'll get on with trying to get in the miles and smiles. :)

I absolutely love my bike. I have accessorized it to the tip, and now am done, can this be?

Nonetheless, 7000 miles in 4 months and I still love riding it.

Now if I could be home more, I travel 50% of the time, I could put some miles on it.

Jim

Acceseorized to the tip? Each accessory is an absolute occasion in my life. I pray that my wishlist for accessories will never run dry! I had the same thought weather it is possible to have everything. Can you post some pics?

I've had mine over a year and no problems. havent even bothered responsding to that letter that came. No point mines fine and I dont want it messed with. You know Ive been reading a lot here and theres too many whiners. People with no problems dont post much, I dont bother. MAybe theres juts some unlucky folks here. :nenau

I can't compare it to anything as it is my first bike, but it hasn't bucked me off yet like a bull stung on it's man udder!! So I guess it's a forgiving bike. In fact I've only dropped it twice. Both embarrassing moments of my life. :spitfire Managed to pick it up on my own though. :clap :clap

M I'm Lovin' it........

i symathise with your point of view but remember people with gearbox failures and brake failures are not neccasarly whiners ..they are just posting for the information of others and advice i have had to replace my bike after seriose safty concerns
just remember that if you are unfortunate to have problems yourself
its a lot easyer to be positive if nothing gone wrong with your own pride and joy ..thing are viewd in a very different light when it actually happens to you
...ps i had mine nearly a year before it all went tits up
for a premium priced machine designed for croossing continents a year should be nothing at all ....my last 2 bikes have racked up 70.000 plus each total outlay one rectifier two sets of chans and sprockets and a a cush drive ... thats what ime expecting from the gs ..without the chains of course so when your throttle sticks on and your brakes fail at the same time dont forget to post how delighted you are
all this said i am giving the brand a second chance and aggree with most in the forum its a cracking bike but does have some question marks hanging over it :nono

Like I said, there's unlucky folks here. I dont count you as a whiner, you had big problems. There's guys with trivialities make out there big problems. Trouble is then you cant see wood for trees.
What Im saying is yeah, fair play, listen to the guys with troubles and learn. Ignore the others.
