After a recent drunken confab wi' Wully and mare sober dialogue wi' him today, I'm wonderin if anyone would like to join us in buying a barrel of whisky?

We're looking for another 10 folk to join us in this venture.

It's not every distillery that will sell you a barrel and three that we've identified so far are Bruichladdich, Glengoyne and Tullibardine.

Initially, the personal outlay would be circa £125-£150.

For £1100 (at Tullibardine), you would buy a 200 litre barrel of whisky. For £1600 you'd get a 250 litre Hogshead barrel and these would yield 350 and 435 bottles respectively. You don't pay tax and VAT until after the whisky is taken out of the Bond.

Bruichladdich is the obvious choice (for me anyway) in respect of whisky taste preference BUT considering we'd have 10 years to wait on our bottles, a more central distillery might be better so that we can visit our barrel every once in a while and maybe get a wee sample.

Anyone who dares suggest calling it Tossers Dram or any such shite can forget about putting thier name down :augie

I think I'm in :) Bruichladdich for me not tried the others. But I could be persuaded otherwise :)

I forsee a movie, where 12 men have a key each, and one by one they are killed off until.......................

You could call it Tossers Dram.

Found another ane

on Barra (is that no' whaur Whisky Galore was filmed?)

So far, we've got Bruichladdich

Tullibardine (near Crieff/Auchterarder)

Glengoyne (near Loch Lomond)

and Barra.

I think I'll phone a couple of others tomorrow and sound then oot aboot selling a barrel but don't hold oot much hope.

10 years to save up for that one then

My understanding is that it works out at about six quid per bottle for the Tax/VAT.

Edit: £85 per 12 x 70cl bottles at today's rates per the Tullibardine Distillery website
