The local Regent bingo hall in Leven closed about a year ago.

A group of local volunteers obtained some lottery funding and with the help of lots of local businesses and tradesmen working in their free time, the premises have been transformed into The Leven Community Cinema, an art deco picture house. It's totally run on a voluntary basis and is non profit making.

They opened tonight with a Red Carpet opening of Robert Carlyle's new movie. It was attended by the film's director. I went down for a look and it was quite a spectacle. All black ties, kilts and evening gowns. They even had a piper.

In an age of Multiplex cinemas, this is like breath of fresh air and is brilliant for the local area. Our nearest cinemas are about 25 miles away.

All seats are £6 and lot of hard work and dedication has gone in to this.

Haven't been to the cinema in Leven since about 1978, I think.

Looks like it's time to go again. :thumb

The Troxy was on North Street. The Regent is the one that's just re-opened.

I remember when it was all just fields :rob

My mate is interested in visiting Leven again, he would like to meet the chef from the local hotel for a re-run of its a knock out !

Don't get me started, I have many happy memories of Leven in the sixties... :rob

(mainly of the shops that sold Hornby Dublo and Meccano)
 
Oh, stop yer Monans, Whatton. You can always leave Elie if you don't like it.

I trust they'll be showing Key Largo......
