Bugger, having had the discussion a week ago on here, I now have play on the rear wheel at 3-9 oclock (none at 12-6 Oclock).

It's only a small amount so I'm guessing I can try to nip up the inner adjustment on the pivot bearing? :nenau

I had the same problem myself only a few weeks ago. Inner pivot bearing needed tightening.

I was unsure of the exact way to go about this procedure so I went to Platinum Motorcycles in Bray Co. Wicklow. Mark, the owner, is an ex-BMW mechanic. He nipped up the 12mm hexhead to 9nm (I know 'the book' says 7 but this eliminated all play and was still free moving) re-torqued outer locknut and the bikes handling has been transformed. He gave the whole shaft drive system a good going over and gave it a clean bill of health. :D I've done over 500 miles since and its still perfect.

A small amount of money well spent and he gave me some great advise and tips too. This is my first BMW bike and my first shaft drive bike too so I'm still learning

This bearing seems to be the one that requires the most amount of attention in the whole drive system but is easy to adjust and gives plenty of notice before failure.

there ia a guy on Youtube who changes a rear drive and shows how to adjust these bearings, it looks very easy. He also reckons that they hardly ever, ever fail.

Only if you're sure the bearings are still nicely greased and in good condition!

Nipping up dry and damaged bearings wont give improvement for long
