The engine misfires, then cuts out when I was in the outside lane. Luckily all the traffic was going slow so I managed to put the hazards on and coast to the hard shoulder. I turned it off and back on and it let me chug to the nearest service station which just by chance was only 1 mile away.

I called out the AA who was there in very short order and promptly diagnosed some water in the lead going to the electrical cap on the left cylinder which feeds the spark plug for that cylinder.

Two squirts with WD40 and it was purring like a dream.

He said it's a weak point on these bikes and common in the rain, and the bike enters "safe mode" to allow you to run the bike on one cylinder at low load to allow you to get to a safe place.

Question: if it's a known fault why haven't BMW f*cking well designed it out?

I've had my 1200GS almost 11 years and 75,000+ miles and never had this happen.

Myself and me pal... we both ride gslc, rode from blackpool to fort william in heavy heavy rain. A good seven hours with stopping off hear and there.
Not one problem with the bikes.

The AA man was a twat. In over 25,000 miles on LC GS's I've not had this issue, and haven't heard of it on any forum.

Water and electrics.... nah,no probs on GS's;

What complete bollocks
Three GS's on our tour 57, 11 & 14, which is every incarnation we rode through torrential rain on Sunday in Austria for four hours & none missed a beat.
