A bit of security advice sought from “the collective”...

You are of course 100% correct Richard and I am hoping somebody out there knows of a small screamer type of alarmed disk lock that fits onto the REAR disk of a 2019 GSA

At our Hotel in Sisteron recently the front car park was awash with bikes overnight just ripe for the picking, many with zero effort to secure.....its a fucking long walk home for the sake of two minutes to apply a lock and chain !

I now have a Roadlok fitted to the new GSA but would like a rear alarmed disk lock as another level of deterrent whilst touring, being keen to hang on to my steed of awesomeness rather than let the scrotes have it.

It is perhaps telling that bods will religiously lock their car each and every time they leave it, even when empty, but leave their bike totally unprotected in any way. Given that it’s pretty difficult to steal a modern car but pretty easy to steal even a modern motorcycle, it’s an odd thing to do. I guess it’s simply that it’s very easy and quick to temporarily secure a car (vey often nothing more than a push of a button) but a little bit longer to secure a bike. Laziness wins.

Good planning, Adam, not least as prevention is often better than cure. It would be a long and somewhat dull walk back to the UK from Sisteron (or anywhere really) carrying the contents of the over stuffed panniers, tank bag and top box, along with all the associated bike clobber.

Maybe Sisteron is not a good example

But seriously I wonder if bike theft is less of a problem in France than in the uk…..?

maybe you mesure the roadlok pin that goes in disk, and then buy alarm brake lock with bolt that have same size pin, not super secure but will make noise before they can remove

I want both the front and rear wheels immobilised as any scrote with a skateboard can wheel away a bike with one disk lock fitted. A screamer type of disk lock would be as a backup for the factory alarm/motion sensor. I would also chain it to another bike or some street furniture when touring.

Both wheels locked, bike alarmed, immobilised and tracker active......go steal somebody elses !!!

(Not forgetting the pound of butter I keep at home in the fridge)

The xena alarmed lock I bought was next to useless, despite claiming to be 120db.

From memory the 6mm pin type fitted my rear disc.

Adam, I think you are faced with several challenges, namely:

There are far more disc locks available for front discs than rear. That is not surprising as it is much easier to fit a disc lock to the front disc than the rear.

There are fewer alarmed locks than there are un-alarmed.

Not all alarmed disc locks suit all discs. A few years ago I bought a pretty high quality alarmed disc lock for my 1600. The 1600 has front discs that are very narrow but large in diameter, much narrower than other bikes. It was impossible to set the disc lock at the correct angle to activate the alarm correctly. I sent the lock back for a full refund.

I’d maybe look instead to see if I could find a pin type padlock. I have one on a sea container I rent for storage. The problem is then the diameter of the pin. Another idea migh be to see whether a padlock with a longer hasp might fit? I sometimes see chain driven bikes with a simple padlock through the rear drive cog; not so easy with a shaft drive, of course.

PS Never forget the butter. It, along with this morning’s heavy rain, is guarding my motorcycles. It seems to be working.

Here’s a picture of a small’ish disc lock, attached to the rear sprocket on a chain driven bike.

As far as I can make out, it’s made by Xena.

Won’t work with a GS but on a chain driven bike it looks to be a good idea. I’ll be trying my Pragmasis Roundlock on the rear sprocket of the KTM 1290 SAS. I know the Abus ‘alarmed’ disk lock fits on the rear disk & have used it that way on several occasions when the bikes been left outside overnight, with other security on the front wheel or ideally also chained to something solid, or another bike when on tour.

A few minutes locking up the bike can save a world of pain trying to get home from distant shores.

I'm reasonably confident I had the 6mm version that was alarmed and that I did manage to pin it through the disc - it was unreliable though.

Abuse do a small black disc lock with 6mm pin which fits into a rear gs1200 brake disc.

It is not alarmed and is what I use.

My security is road lok, zena alarm disc lock on front covering both brake discs.
Along with small abuse disc lock on rear. Do not use steering lock.
Finally cover the bike if leaving overnight.

Adam, i've got a Squire Eiger Mini Disc Lock, I checked this morning & it does fit through the disc on the rear (although mine is a '13 GS)

roadlok

i googled but it only came up with a USA site, is that where they are being purchased from?

any issues with extra duties and taxes on arrival at the delivery point?

There’s a member on here who supplies the Roadlok, he is U.K. based, so no extra duties or taxes to worry about.
I can’t remember his username though, nice bloke and easy to deal with.

I’m sure someone will be along soon with his name. You need to be a member to be able to send a PM to him I think. It’s well worth the subscription to be able access the full site and the wealth of knowledge within, it works out at less than 30 pence a week and the banter in the pub is excellent.

I now use a roadlok when just parked up out of major cities etc.

For cities i fit an additional disklock on the other side of the front wheel.

I also fit a small disk lock on the back wheel, and if in a dodgy area a bike cover.

If they get past all that then they really want it.

I use to carry a chain but dont bother now as far to heavy and to much hassle

What disc locks are people using on the small rear disc ?
