I actually remember seeing this at the time and feeling rather smug.
 
That must be so boring for the new 1200LC owners watching a journalist doing a road test without being thrown off the bike and killed..

I know. What a selfish bastard.:D

It's:
- the only BMW that looked aproper manly in design, all the rest throughout BMW history have been a girly bikes (OK, maybe except HP2 Enduro)
- the only simple tech BMW that holds its own in the current hi-tech era w/o requiring any BMW-recovery truck, software bug fixes, reboots/resets, 1100 just runs
- the only BMW that can go 300 000+ miles without top end overhaul
- the only BMW that doesn't rust so much
- a proper 5 gear box, no unnecessary overcomplicated 6th


(well OK, this applyes only to the model years of '97-'99) :D
