BMW is taking the piss big time (at least in my opinion) with the 1200's pricing - 10.5k with luggage for God's sake!

However... they seem to be flying out of the showrooms and many are being bought by the ex-sportsbike brigade apparently on the strength of the bike's "must-have" reviews.

I reckon that most of them (i) don't know or care about this site (ii) have more money than sense and (iii) will be flogging their 1200s in a year's time with their usual annual 2,000 miles on the clock.

That's when my 1150 goes into MCN and I join you wealthy buggers in the 1200 club.

Whadya think?

Hi Heated Grips,

dream on buddy.

Once you realise the fun you can have on one of these rascals you put on the mileage quickly and before you know it you'll discover you've found the ideal all round bike.

So get saving like the rest of us did.

Regards

Reggie

Good luck Heated Grips,

I will be keeping my 12GS and sportbikes until senility sets in. So not too long to go before you can buy the lot cheap from my dear lady!

Feel sorry for you Heated Grips!
You might be in for a long wait - haven't come across many 12GS owners wanting to part with there machines.
So in the mean time - eat your heart out!!

Love it!

Take mine out every day (well every Sunday, actually every Sunday it's dry and sunny..... and I'm not doing something else.... and it's warm-ish)

Great fun. Ride for miles.....well, about 20 or so.

Already got 190 miles on the clock, less 6 from delivery.

Oh! and you can get all your Waitrose stuff in the hard luggage. Except the French stick which I bungee to the pillion seat.

It's a blast, really, you should get one.

Skippy.

This probably won't help matters much, but...

I saw a used 1200GS (400 miles on the odometer) with luggage sell on eBay for $700USD more than I bought mine for brand new (minus luggage). These bikes don't seem to be depreciating much at all. Good for those of us who have them :) , bad for those who don't. :(

Skippy - what's the 'dry and sunny' bit?

GS's can do any weather (Ok ice is a bit nerve racking) certainly wet wet wet.

When you're out and its chucking it down - who else would you see on the road? Other GS's of course - not a Ducati, Blade or Harley in sight!
There's even a route on the East Anglia area site that revels in ford crossings and hump back bridges...cos they don't have mountains poor loves...

So get your gear on and go and play in the puddles...

FWIW

my previous bikes have been:
RD350 FII
ZX6R G1
ZX6R G2
ZX6R J1
ZX6R J2
CBR954RR
ZX6R A1
CBR600RR
so I was one of those sportsbike riders you talk about (cept I did 20-25k a year)

Situations dictated that in feb last year I needed a bike that would be a) cheaper to insure and b) still fun to ride at a fairly rapid pace.
Having seen Animal ride his GS, I decided an 1150 would do me for a year or two to get some no claims before going back to a sportsbike.

Now a year on, I am SMITTEN with GS's.
I was gutted when DrAlf rode off with my 1150 last wednesday.:(
But I got over it when I picked up the 1200 on friday.:D:D

I will hopefully one day still return to sportsbike ownership, but only as a second bike. Whilst theres one bike in my garage, it will be a GS if situations dont dictate otherwise.

There may be the odd person selling up as you describe. But dont bet on it.;)
