Unconventional ride report as it’s more about others riding!
Neither Bev or I are really bike racing fans, and certainly no interest in the more-wheels totally tedious motorised forms of racing, but having England’s only road race circuit not too far away thought we’d have a day out.
Always interesting seeing racing on a road you’ve ridden around and are familiar with – especially as Oliver’s Mount is little more than a single track parkland drive…but with lots and lots of variety in it’s small route – including steep climbs, tight turns and fantastic views over Scarborough and the sea (not for the racers mind).

Bit costly at £20 p/p + a fiver for the programme, but costs a bit to put on.
I’d said to Bev the last time I’d been was 20 years ago, she told me it wasn’t…as we’ve been together that long….doh…aren’t blokes great! Well, near 30 years then.
The weather obviously deterred a few folk as the event was quite quiet and the stall holders weren’t doing as well as hoped.
The text I received saying there had been snow Malton way at 08:30 didn’t paint a good picture.
Had one or two ‘strong’ showers on the way, but thankfully very little traffic – and hardly any other bikes.
We’d set out leisurely so arrived just as first race started (along with a hail shower).
At least it was comfortable walking around in the bike gear – no danger or over-heating, never got above 10degs during the day – but plenty of sunshine later to warm the bones.
Thoroughly enjoyed the day and, though not a cheap day out, it was a great experience.
A quick photo tour of (most of) the circuit. It’s the first time I’ve used my digi SLR for bike racing, was on slide film in past, nice to try the hand at panning and whatnot – and interesting trying the sport mode against manual focus etc. Had the camera 7 years but not used sport actually for ‘sport’ til this w/e!
(There should be some great pictures and a full report on their web site in due course, and hopefully some excellent video footage.)
Top of the steep Sheene's rise & Quarry Hill is the Esses - they have cycle events here too - good luck with that hill - it's bloody steep
Just up from where you've parked your bike.
