You can still do plenty with a GSA in the UK

Good watch. Would love to do some proper off roading on my GSA but I can't get covered on my income protection and I'm not in a financial position that allows me to take the risk.

Yes, you can do such things on a gs, but, generally, it is a mistake.
In 2011, I was in Isle of Man on a 1200rt, and rode up worse - somewhere near Trollaby lane. I was on the inside of the TT course, lost, during a race & wanted out. Followed the Satnav & ended up on a road marked "Suitable for motorcycles & horses." Went down it. Worse than anything shown in the video. Found myself trapped by the race so had to go back up it. Multiple "Steps" on it, so I had to race at them. Broke the Satnav bracket with the bumps. At least the GS rider had Knobbilies.

What tyre was that on the front? it looked quite an aggressive tread pattern, with wide spaced blocks... Bags of grip and with the front weight of a GSA pushing it into the ground it must have been like riding on ice spikes!
19" motox 'rear' I would guess.....

positive that been posted a year or 2 back.. tbh its nothing special, with the exception of a few parts of the steep hill channel all of that is perfectly possible on a pure road bike. my mate joined us on an off road tour in italy last year on his f800 - he went everywhere we did.

apologies, meant f800 ST, he was an excellent rider though, we were totally stunned as were a lot of the riders we came across on various routes.
there was a big group at the top of the Col del Sommelier with GS's/ktm all saying how hard it was etc, few mins later our mate pops over the ridge on his st and says that was easy - the faces were classic and it went quiet quickly.

In case any of you needed some motivation to get the bike dirty
Certainly you can do all that on a GS/A
BUT it helps if
1. You have long legs
2. You have more than a modicum of ability
3. You have someone else's bike!
Well, as I don't have any of the above I guess I won't being going off road any time soon!
Prehaps that's the excuse I need for a second bike that is smaller and lighter to learn on (and cheaper to fix when I drop it
)
