Sorting through my old favourites and came across this little electronic pamphlet.
http://mediafiles.thedms.co.uk/publ...tion-sheets/USAAF Airfields Guide and Map.pdf
It's a map and summary of all the USAAF airfields in East Anglia. Would make a nice tour route, going through some very quiet roads and sleepy villages as well as busier towns. May is the best time of year
Combine that with some of the RAF bases in the area (there aren't too many as they were mostly up in Lincs ) and you have a battlefield tour very close to home.
I know there were RAF at Ely, Stradishall, Newmarket (SOE), Oakington and Tempsford (SOE). Please feel free to add to those few I can think of off the top of my head ......
I recommend the museums at Thorpe Abbotts and Parham (USAAF and Auxiliary Units at the latter). as well as Bassingbourn (which you need to book in advance to visit as it's still an active British Army base).
If you're in North Norfolk, I recommend the Muckleburgh Collection in Weybourne. And there's always Duxford and the Eagle pub near and in Cambridge itself.
