Right you with the knowledge: I've got most of the stuff off, but just need a few more pointers. Firstly, I've got rid of the main 'abs pump' unit and all the brake lines. There is another flattish square box that sits in front of said abs pump. Is that purely for the abs too? Can I ditch that as well? I assume I then just wrap up the multi plugs and zip tie them safely in the empty space?

Also, I think Steptoe said I should remove the abs relay. Could you tell me which one that is please? Will that stop the abs warning lights?

Also, I'm assuming my brake lights will still work or do I need to do some re-wiring?

Guidance much appreciated

I've taken a few pics to help make up for my poor descriptions:

This one shows the 'flat sq. box'

This one shows the other wires to the pump thingy. Do I just tape these up and ignore them too?

All help and advice very much appreciated.

The "flat square box" is the ECU and will need to stay if you want the engine to still run. Can't help with the other questions I'm afraid

Good luck!

Don't remove the 'flat, square box'

Brake lights should be OK, switch it on and see if they work :D

re the ABS relay, switch on the ignition and pull the relays one at a time until the ABS light goes out. :aidan

Good on you that go on with this! :thumb Nevertheless, judging from your questions sounds that it could be a good idea to await some on-site assistance before continuing removal of parts from your bike. :augie

seen it all now.

this forum never ceases to amaze me.. just when you think it can't get sillier.. it do!

Nearly there then!

What's silly about it motorbiker?

Me needing guidance, or removal of abs?

If it's the latter, you need to have an early GS/abs system to realise how crap it is!

So, to the other helpful posters.... I've removed all the correct bits then, except the relay, and now just got to put my new brake lines on and I'm away.

Is there nothing I need to do with the big multi connector that plugged into the abs pump, and can I remove all the wires that go to the abs sensors for each wheel? (I like a neat job!)

Just wrap it up in a plastic bag to keep water out and secure it in the space where the ABS pump was.

Yes. You can remove the front sensor completely, it unplugs somewhere up around the headstock. Unplug the rear sensor and snip the wire where it goes into the sensor on the wheel hub housing.

The blue relay is for the ABS

Good on you willstat! :clap You're going to make it! :thumb

Let us hear how you're going with the electrical issues (described by Steptoe).

Hi Chev. I don't think there are any electrical issues with my model as I understand it... or at least I hope! Mine is the fairly basic 2001 model. Pre servo and all that stuff.

I hope I'm right... let you know when I've put it back together!!

Sorry! My bad! :blast I keep focusing on myself and my 2003 1150 with servo. :augie

Hey mate, dont know if this will be of any use but I've been fumbling with a similar problem and found some potentially useful stuff on another site
http://www.r1150r.org/board/search.php?t=13571
Theres some pretty innovative fixes for the 1150 r/rockster etc for the electical side, I think 'sweatmark' has at some stage had wiring diagram fixes for the brake light problem that seems to accompany abs removal. The best part was being able to re use a relay that gets flicked off when you take away the abs unit. You may need to search around a bit on the site but try using the words abs and relay, I think this is the key. Good luck!

I took the servo abs off my 03 1150 about 15k ago, what electrical problems are you on about? I seem to remember needing to get another live for the rear brake and changing the switches but that's it. Bike runs great and no faults recorded when Steptoe used his 911 equipment :thumb2

Hey Bobble, Go easy mate, new to all this. I just put that out there in case it's useful or of interest. There was a lot of chatter on that site about i-abs-ectomy which resulted in an economical fix for them with the 1150 roadster type bikes. Clearly there will be points of difference between the various models but point taken. I'm actually on the look out for the simplest method on 1200GS.

I wasn't having a go, sorry if it came over that way :blast:thumb2
Can't help with the 12 though:confused:

Not at all, truth is it pays to become familiar with as much of the facts within a thread as possible instead of adding confusion as I did here. I'm sure there must be a name for this sort of thing and if there isn't then there should be, background noise, throwing mud into dirty water, I don't know, maybe a squelch knob would be handy to eliminate the unwanted stuff like with the old cb radios otherwise it all spins out too much. As an amateur tosser I have to take my hat off to those who are truly accomplished ;)
