I picked up a '00 single spark 1150 earlier with 50'000 miles on the clock. I got the bike for a nice price and it's got some sensible extras.

Number of issues to tidy up- the preload adjuster is seized, so I'll take the handle off and oil it and try and get it moving.

Rear brake is non existent! Pads on order!

What is troubling me is the final drive. Previous owner said he changed the big final drive bearing a year or two ago. Rest of the bearings seem fine but when I'm rolling off the throttle, I can hear/ feel through my left boot, a grinding noise from the clutch/ gearbox. It does not happen on my r850 r, nor did it happen on my 1150gsa.

Also, when hot, in neutral, the clutch seems quite noisey.

Does this strike alarm bells with anyone? Bike rides great. Very smooth but when I let go of the throttle it really does sound/feel rough.

Any suggestions very welcome.

Oh and by the way, it's great being back on a GS. I had a great ride home today despite the noisey/ graunching roll off.

drop the gearbox oil to see if there are are bits or silver mush in it

Cool. If it's dry tomorrow I'll ride the chicken strips off it. It's got a patina too!

Gearbox oil clear. It must just be the way it is. I'll ride it and see what happens. It's running Nicely and I'm not going to touch it until something breaks!

Could anyone tell me, has my bike got a lambda sensor or co2 pot? I can't see a lambda sensor in the y piece. Is there a particular year lambda sensors were used from?

1150 is lambda sensor, co pot was only on some 1100's.

It'll be there somewhere.

Must look harder!

Really pleased with the bike. Had a good spin earlier. New front tyre tomorrow and a few bits in order. Anyone looking for an r850r?!

So, engine at operating temp. Clutch lever pulled in - clutch disengaged. Thunk thunk. Not unusual for a gs...

Let out lever In neutral - silence.

I'm heading to my mech tomorrow to show them the bike but wondering what you lot think? Yes earplugs are an option. I've budgeted a few quid for issues and this is an issue for me. If I'm commuting I use the clutch a lot.

I've read most of what the Internet says. What I don't know is if the bits that need replacing are easily replaceable under a normal clutch replacement?

Anyway, here she is! I've decided to call her Grainne.

The rear brake caliper can seize on the slider pins causing uneven pad wear and rubbish braking. Check it moves side to side OK.

Hi Smelly, bike looks good.
Please change those old rubber front and rear brake hoses for SS ones as soon as you can.
They may look ok on the outside but inside its just a matter of time before they let you down.
I had a front calliper lockup once, not fun.

Curiously enough, the rear brake is rubbish! I've new pads on order so I'll give the whole caliper a good clean when I get the pads.

I must price some up. I expect there is a good link on the forum somewhere. Thanks.

The Grumpy One freed up the sliders on my rear brake when he did a service for me.
The next day as I wheeled bike backwards out of the garage it ran away from me down the slope. Twas only then that I realise how much the brake had been dragging.

The new tyre is on. Old one was dated 2006! The front pads look like they are wearing at an angle, so I expect ill have to check the Pistons are moving freely. Ugh. I hate brake cleaning. Filthy messy job.
