I have never fished for tench before, I was winging it with a little knowledge gleaned from various places on the interweb. Early morning, there before light. Set up one rod quickly, chucked in my rig and lobbed a couple of plum sized balls of groundbait at my float, containing the groundbait grains, a dozen or so 2mm halibut pellets and chopped up sweetcorn kernels, plus maybe half a dozen whole ones, I didn't want to actually feed any tench that were grubbing about.





The hook bait, 2 worms and a kernel to hold them on the barbless hook.

They were all males: 2.5lbs, 3.5lbs and the last one about 3lbs.

I shall do this again. I like the float ledger rig, simple, like me!

The one you sold me is retained for grayling trotting and the odd chub that gets in the way!

This is a tatty old Mordex Merlin, it is strong though and the clicker is also strong to prevent current taking line if ledgering in flowing water. I might give it a refurb one day, but original patina doesn't worry me.

That's a nice trio of Tench KR and a good action shot; Tench or big Perch with that set up either will give you a good pull around; i can see why you had to get in early with a pitch like that;; i've be with the Grandson this afternoon to our local pond; 3 small Roach and a small bream; the young un hooked into a big carp he was totaly unprepared for with light tackle; by the time i got to him he had already been smashed; even the bailiff could'nt help him;

I'm a member of Derbyshire County Angling Club, this is one of our privately owned lakes that the club owns outright near Long Eaton. Also 6 miles of the lower Derwent, 4 miles of the Trent, a fair bit on the Idle at Retford, Dove and Manifold Ashbourne and up into the Peaks, Ogston reservoir at Matlock(ish), 2 trout lakes at Retford, a coarse lake at Worksop, 2 lakes a trout and a coarse at Willington plus 1.5 miles of the Trent there...probably forgotten some! Then rented waters on top. It is probably the best value for money club in the country.
