Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
After reading Rocks desire to maybe get a GPSmap 60C but not wishing to spend much cash. I had a look on the Garmin website and see that the updates to:-
European City Navigator V 6 costs USD 150
European City Select V6 costs USD 100

So maybe it would be a good idea for those of you running version 5 to look for others looking for a second unlock code and let them pay for the update in exchange for your second unlock code...

Its just an idea and could be beneficial to both parties. I have no need for this as I already have version 6. I'm just thinking of a way where everyone can save money. By the way in my understanding of this even if you already use two unlock codes for version 5 does not mean that the update has to be used on the same GPS afterwards. Meaning that you keep V5 with two unlock codes and V6 could be used on two other units.

I of course stand to be corrected...

I think that you better consider yourself corrected!

The update CDs require a PC-loaded and decoded original CD before they will work.

To be fair, I haven't tried what Richie is suggesting, but Garmin have this whole unlock thing buttoned up so well, I'd be amazed if it worked - besides, why would Garmin post out update CDs at no charge if they thought that you could use them without an unlock code?

Greg, I know what you mean. Only the original CD would be needed.

The two people would have to meet up to install the original software on the second pc.

From then on it would work. I have mapsourse 6.1 and city navigator 6 installed on my PC but I don't have the cds. If I needed them I would have to go and pick them up and reinstall them. You can install your cd on as many PC as you like. I have already installed the software on 4 seperate PC no problem.

And you would still only be using the unlock code on two GPS so Garmin "still have it sewn up"

Also, lets keep it simple by saying that the original owner of the software is only using one unlock code. Then I am fairly sure that it will be a goer. It is after all what I have done but already using V6...

Richie,
Why not just copy the CD's ? There is copying and copying of course but with my brother I just copied them using an exact copying software , well actually my son did it , and sent him the CD's. I was chatting to him last night and all seemed to be working OK and with my unlock codes we now both have CD's and unlock codes working using your 2nd unlock code principle.

I hope Garmin don't look at this site.....

I recently went through this sort of thing when a friend bought a SP3. He bought an American version so that I could use his USA CDs and he could use my Europe CDs.
We decided that it would be prudent to register his GPSR in my name in order to get all the neccessary unlock codes.
We couldn't see any other way of doing it. ????
