For some reason I left the bike out of the garage last night and of course it was then the coldest night of the year.

Went to start the frost silver GSA this morn - fires up fine then horrific clatter: realised starter motor switch was frozen into the on position. Hairdryer solves this problem.

Bike fuel gauge already on zero bars and fuel light on and 15 mile drive to work ahead. Stop for fuel and tank flap frozen. Buy deicer and suirt. Nada. Continue ecomoical drive to work. Lock still frozen on arrival.

Fingers crossed for thaw by lunchtime...

Why? did you buy de-icer, when you had plenty of warm tea or coffee waiting to be recycled.

no help for the cap flap - but i've often "toasted" the key with my cigarette lighter, then slowly and gently insert into the lock- its gives enough heat to thaw without damage.

Og.

Didnt really want to stand astride the beast on the Emo forecourt with my old man in hand playing golden showers.

Anyway it was so cold I couldnt find it....

Or just use a ciggy lighter on the cap flap, at arms length naturally!:D :D :D :D

I can sympathise with the starter problem as I had the same this morning. Trouble is that there's a problem with the way she's running at the moment and I was only just able to start her after that jolt.

Looks like it's time for the garage step to be ramped once and for all now.

post script to the tale was that I rode home tonight, fuel cap lock now unfrozen but fuel warning light still on.

Showing 435km on the trip head home.

Overtake lorry on straight before petrol station.

Engine misses. Then agian.

Splutters.

cuts out as I coast onto forecourt. Result.

Fill tank with exactly 30l and tank bag with 6 tiger beers (or was it the other way round)

Proceed home

Kiss baby. Pleasantries with mother in law.

Retire to garage with tiger beer and a sly hows your father
