......bike appears to be running...so I must have got it right.

Set off down the A9 for Brora, turning off at the Clynelish distillery and heading up Strath Brora towards Rogart. Lovely dry roads and quite mild.

Got to Lairg and heade up Strath Oykel on the A839/837.
What a bloody excellent road. Although some of it is single track, it's got a new (mainly) surface and it pans out so you can always see a few bends down the road. Had great fun keeping it in 3rd and just winding on and off the throttle.:bounce1 It's a fantastically scenic road as well, but I was far too busy to stop for photies.:thumb

Up to Ledmore Junction and welly it down towards Ullapool.

Behold Ullapool! -
International gateway to some islands! I had a fantastic time wandering around the alleways and bazaars that make up this great maritime centre. The comings and goings of the rusty ferries dangerously overladen with sheep and tourists. The mix of all nationalities - from Oonyackistani traders tying up their trading dhows and offloading their wares to other islanders in the bustling markets selling boiled Puffins and Gannet marinaded in peat bog.
Dog farmers from Assynt with their cages full of Scottie dogs chasing after tourist coaches and throwing Scottie dogs through the open windows - hoping the tourists will accept the trade and throw out a few pennies.....

Yeah, alright...it was dead. So i had some fish and chips and hit the road.

ulapool

it wina be dead fur at least one weekend in june:augie

More excellent roads, back up to Ledmore Juntion, head for Kylesku and Scourie and the world is your lobster.....

More bloody fantastic (empty) roads, a quick stop at Loch Assynt to get a dodgy photie of Ardvreck castle and then continue ever onwards up towards Durness..stoping only to take another dodgy photo not showing much (apart from an example of what the roads are like).

Finally, arrived at the Cape Wrath ferry point - just to get a couple of piccies for those on the Open Invite Scotland tour that are taking their bikes over to the headland.

First photie is the jetty, second is where you're heading.

Through Durness, back through Kyle of Tongue (was there yesterday, so see previous post if you want some piccies of this bit) and then onto Groats.

Landed back home at 16:45 having covered 325 miles in 7 1/4 hours including fuel stops, 15 mins stuffing me face with chips and an odd photie stop. The rest of the time I was going at it pretty damn briskly as I needed to be home before 18:00. Not a bad time to say its twisty roads.

The point behind this is that I wanted to see if you could reasonably do the 'Circuit', maybe starting out from Ullapool, inside a day. - Yes you can.
If you set off fairly early and weren't bothered about being back until quite late, I'd say it would be a good day out for sightseeing if you were touring Scotland and wanted to fit in the Far North on a tight schedule. Or a bloody good thrash if you want to do it quicker and don't have a pillion who wants to 'see' things.

K.
