I’ve just sent two black sets back to Gilles after they failed dramatically.

Currently have a bronze set on that have been ok, waiting for Gilles to give me an answer why they have failed.

That’s not good

Thats shitte

I hope this isn’t one of those situations where once the product gets popular they cut back on quality to “maximise shareholder revenue” while trading on the previous good name.

If it’s any consolation my bronze pair still look and feel as good as they did three years ago

Two sets ?? Are you doing something nobody else does. One faulty set maybe, but two ?? :nenau:comfort:D

Never belonged to me personally. I have a bronze set on my bike which have been fine. These belong to someone I know, he never goes off road so doesn’t stand up on them (like I do mine) BMW replaced them no problem and my dealer rang and asked me to check mine, which are fine. I was at Garmische this year, as was Gilles, got talking to them and showed them the pictures, they had no knowledge of any failures and had no correspondence with BMW. I sent them some more pictures when I got home and they asked me to send them a set back. I got both broken sets off my dealer as BMW never asked for them back, I was just going to strip them for spares like the centre rubbers and the end sliders. This could be just a bad batch of alloy, Gilles haven’t found out yet what caused the failure, as soon as I hear back from them I will post the information. Personally I think they are not the strongest footrests available out there and a bit gimmicky. I’m waiting to hear back from another company who are developing a footrest for the GS.

Checked my set today, and now my set has developed a crack.

Emailed Gilles but no reply as of yet as it’s Sunday, sent pictures to my dealer also. If they replace them I will sell the replacement set straight away. That’s two people with three sets that have failed. These were all bought at a similar time from the same dealer, may be a bad batch but the seed is set in my head now. I had two sets of pivot pegs with no issue but the fit on the LCGS limits access to the side stand so I tried these. Not sure what to do now to be honest, waiting to here back from the other company.

My advice to those who have them is to check them regularly.

Just checked mine and so far they are ok. But i will be checking them before and after each run just in case. I bought mine from Bahnstormer.

GB.

Will be good to hear what the outcome is. Just checked mine and they are ok. Just out of interest, did you torque them to the correct specification? Also, your previous post, you said you had the bronze colour ones fitted. Pic with crack is black?

After I heard about the two black sets failing I stripped and loctited them.

Why would you need to torque them unless you had dropped them ? Even then the point where they failed isn’t where you adjust them up or down.

Agreed, I’m now of the opinion it’s poor design, there is not enough material around the threads.

You need to remove those two bolts to access the adjustment bolt.
