We were on holiday today so we thought we'd hae a drive up into Perthshire for a wee daunder aboot wi' the dug and a bar lunch at the always splendid Moulin Hotel, on the outskirts of Pitlochry.

On oor way north on the A9, we drove past a guy on a push bike and for a split second, I thocht somebody had "spiked" my corn flakes: he was on a Penny Farthing! Unfortunately, I couldnae stop until aboot 2 miles further up the road and Mrs Ronno wasnae too keen on us waiting until he caught up, so the photo evidence was oot the windae. :(

We then stopped off at the Hermitage, Dunkeld for a walk wi' the dug. It's a crackin' area in here and well worth a visit.

We had a wander aboot in here and then drove up to Moulin for oor dinner. Problem was when we arrived (just after 1 p.m) there were no free tables so we went into the church across the road which is now a heritage centre and had a coffee and wander around. It was really good and informative. I found oot that Killin (whaur a crowd o' us SS Tossers are haen a swallie on Saturday) was one of the first assembly points for the Highland Clearances. Thirty families numbering 300 men, women and bairns met here in 1775 before they sailed off to the new world in the west.

The Moulin Hotel is a top spot for a bar lunch and after we'd had a belly fu', we headed down to the Blair Atholl distillery on the south side of Pitlochry.

I had just got oot the car when the guy on the Penny Farthing appeared. I quickly got a photie o' him and he stopped for a wee craic.

It turns oot that he's cycling from Lands End to John O' Groats for charity : Macmillan Cancer Support. He's a crackin' character called Stuart Kettell and he asked me if I could dae him a wee favour. He'd cycled past a Penny Farthing sculpture back the road a wee bit and wanted his photo taken beside it. I was more than happy to oblige.

The guy is cycling 50 miles a day and is 20 days into his charity run. He's completely alone. He hopes to be in JOG in 5 days. If any o' yous see him on the road, gie him a toot and a wave. He had the bike specially made for him in the Czech Republic and with a fixed wheel, he has to peddle non stop!

I tried to give him £20 towards his charity but he asked me to make any donation on line. I'm happy to do this and to stick his webpage up in case anyone else wants to help him. Stuart made no request for me to do this. His webpage name is really guid tae...:D

It was real pleasure to meet such a generous guy and great character. I'm also glad that I could help in some small way as Stuart's asked me to email the pics so that he can stick then on his website.

We finished off by stopping at the Scottish Liquour Centre at Bankfoot for a coffee. A cracking wee spot and a lovely cup of coffee. Some nice private bottlings of single malt whiskies too at a very guid price. Their 16 year old Islay malt was a good tenner cheaper than Laguvallin 16 year old :thumb

A day to remember. I'm still smiling thinkin' aboot that mad hoor on the Penny Farthing.

PS Sorry that there's nae GSs in my pics :o
