Saturday...weather looked OK for a day....been wet for days....so left here in cloudless skies at 6.25 am, zoom up to Inverness, ignoring all but two of the av speed cameras, on to The Storehouse at Foulis, met up with biker mates, decent breakfast, and then up to Dornoch to meet up with big Jim Wright leading a run of BMW club members.
Up to Dunbeath for cuppie, on to John o' G.
By then I remembered everything I don't like about trailing along in a crocodile of riders with differing skills, so Pete and I (him on his brand new XR1000) decided to stick with them til the planned lunch stop at Castle of Mey (Jim is a tour guide there in real life) and the abandon ship.
So bowl of (very good) soup and off.
Along to Thurso and a hurl along to Tongue. Pure dead brilliant...weather great, road dry, not as much traffic as I expected....previous weeks of rain may have put bods off??..
Down to Altnaharra, Lairg, Bonar Bridge and then across to Dornoch for a quick cuppie with BMW club chaps at their camp, then down the A9...lot of traffic round Inverness due to a concert at Caley Thistle....some one getting a ticket from the unmarked blue Audi...so we knew he was busy!
Back home for 8.15
375 miles on dry roads...definitely now need a new tyre before France next month!
Dead lucky to be able to do that in a day out from home rather than having to take hols!
