A month to wait for a 600 mile service..?

Are you saying that the ECU on the WC logs all these things routinely, and that you are also worried that it will tell the dealer if you have over-revved it before the first service as well? And if it does do that, does the hexhead ECU do the same?

To be honest I wouldnt put it past it! Ever noticed just how many symbols quickily flash up on the dash when you turn the ignition on then quickly disapear so you cant see them all.... !! Thats the bmw witchcraft telling you your being watched :hide

I had the same issue, brought the the oil filter oil for engine and final drive from the dealer and did it myself. If you not confident do the same but get an independent mechanic to do it.

The first service consists of an engine oil and filter change, not even a final drive fluid change or valve check any more. I simply bought a filter and 4 qts of BMW's expensive Castrol and did it myself also. Went ahead and changed the FD oil as well for piece of mind.

Is the oil it comes with a different type of oil just designed for running in and that's why they recommend you don't rev past 4k for the first 600 miles..?

Yes the final drive oil should be changed at 600 when you drained it I bet it was black and dirtier than you expected after 600 miles.
That's why it needs to be changed.

Good, I stand corrected I'm glad they're still calling for the FD oil to be changed at 600. Yeah mine came out a little dark, then again it will continue to for me because I always add a little moly gear lube to it.
