A new initiative - France, long weekend breaks

This looks really interesting. I can't do this year as too much travel money is already committed, but up for it next year. A hotel near the ferry port works best for me as it's a fair ride just to get to Kent. I'd like to do it with the tunnel too, not having been on it.

Poole to Cherbourg would offer an alternative, spending the weekend in Brittany.

Looks like this one will have to be postponed until early next year. I dont have any other weekend free.
Parked unitl 2027 unless anyone else wishes to take over the reigns for another date.

As per my previous post this looks like a great idea. I think most of us are already booked up for 2026 but next year I would certainly be up for some of this (y)

I love the optimism in these posts.

I have passed the stage of going on any sort of biking trip beyond two hours with people I don't know. The last thing I want to do with my leisure time is wait for people who are lost or delayed. Hell is other people!

Was just reading this (https://www.ukgser.com/community/threads/france-for-the-weekend.492295/) again and just reminds me why I really enjoy riding in France.

Was thinking about setting up a monthly France long weekend trip section. Sort of like the original “South East Meet Up’s” but then for long weekend trips to France😁😁

….and for this month's trip….. meet in Montreuil sur Mer, overnight at the xxxxx hotel. Day 2 a ride out to xxxxxx total trip mileage around 250 km. Overnight stay at xxxx hotel then back to Calais… via xxxx town.. total km - 250 km…..

It perfectly feasible…..if you were to arrive in france late on say a Friday night you could be back in Kent early on the Monday morning……having had two great days riding in France or if required a late afternoon train / Ferry even on the Sunday night if hotel costs were a concern….

Interesting idea…….

And before the usual suspects piss on it or think they have it all better and can monopolize it…its just a fekkin idea……

I’ve cut’n’pasted it, in case bods don’t see and pick-up on the initiative in Trip Reports.

I like the idea Grant, but this might have to be one for next year.
Keep me posted, in person, PM, or WhatsApp.

Indeed it can be a risk but with a bit of planning it can work.
That’s why for this idea we can just put ideas up and bods can join or not. It’s one thing putting up an idea on here and quite another arranging all
My idea is to put a route together and dates and it’s up to everyone to make their own arrangements. They can ride the route or not leave earlier or later but at least there is a start and end option

Overnight crossings are far too late for the duration you actually on the boat. So you’ll wake up a bit shagged, not enjoying your day ahead. Done it last year on the way to Sid’s, not awful, but certainly not the most fun I had on two wheels for a day. Doubt I’ll be repeating the journey again.

Good luck with it, seriously. I'm sure other people find me as frustrating as I find them! You need to be explicit to anyone who's considering getting involved about what will happen in the event of breakdowns, delays etc.
