Hi Guy's,

Possibly not the right thread for this BUT I wanted to share the wealth :)

Having trawled the internet and forums for tyre suppliers in Wales and made many phone calls with no answers I found a website I have never used before: www.mytyres.co.uk an Oxford based company currently providing a STUNNING deal on a pair of Metzeler Karoo (2) T which is the newer and more road biased version. For that price im willing to give them a go and worst case i'm gona melt them riding to and around Scotland in May this year :D

I can see why the original Karoo's got slated as the tread pattern is heavily off road biased but the new version are alot more like TKC's onlyon this deal nealry half the price!!! Worth a try me feels AND that still leaves me with enough money to buy tyre levers and hopefully some kit to build my own balancer OR Dynabeads OR tyre goop. But thats another story yet to unfold :eek

I say, "get in there before they are all gone" as I saved roughly £60 quid without mentioning delivery charges either! I'm not usually this tight but the whole christmas story hit the wallet hard this year :( So i'm just happy to be able to get a new set of rubber and its a real bonus that its capable of light off road work too! :clap

Really looking forward to scrubbing in some semi knobblies on this snow and ice :eek

I called them today to check everything was in place.... Apparently the order is being processed and delivery will be in 2-4 working days! One thing that is err... errmmm... slightly annoying (although based in Oxford) was their accent! I found them a little difficult to understand :augie Regardless they were VERY helpful and VERY polite and VERY efficient :D So far no complaints... Lets wait and see whan the tyres turn up huh :)

Metz Karoo's are Radial-ply, the Karoo (T) is Bias-ply.

For a while, the Karoo (T) was the tyre supplied with 1200 Adventures. I was offered three pairs taken off brand new bikes where the owners wanted more road-biased rubber.

I've found the Karoo (T) to be very similar in performance to TKC's and about the same sort of life.

The front tyre cups less than a TKC over the same life, possibly because the tread blocks are angled slightly and not square-on like a TKC.

Wet and dry grip is about the same and about the only downside that I can report is that they seem to understeer a bit if the suspension isn't adjusted to match the load (that said my shocks are overdue a service so it may be that).

Sourcing a replacement rear recently, I was surprised to find that it was a fair bit cheaper than a TKC (I only paid £200 for the three pairs and this is the first one that I've bought at the full retail price).

There was no difficulty getting one either.

I'm really looking forward to trying these tyres and will give me the option to head for some green stuff too!!!

I understand TKC's are popular but i really dont think they are worth the money? Most are over priced for the sake of knowing people "prefer them"... Maybe the Karoo T's will be the loop hole to give the same performance at half the price? :D

Fingers crossed of course! :augie

worn out already

did 2k mls in morocco recently , ok alot was off road , but karoo t were worn out in the 2k and 2 wks , good tyres on/off road but wear out quick .

BUGGER!!! I hope thats a result of plenty of power being stuffed into that back wheel? :eek Really hoping to pull more that 2k from them... My riding will be road biased and relatively light off road... IE: mud, grass, gravel etc I'm guessing / hoping yours got ground down on a lose stoney surface??? :blast

Thats not a bad price but I have the Karoo's on my HP2 and I recon I get 1500 miles from the back:eek: I havn't tried any others though so can't compare performance.

How are these as road tyres?
Much the same as TKC's, maybe they wear a bit quicker (at least the rear seems to).

If you treat the throttle as an on-off switch, don't like the sensation of the tyres skipping off over-banding or studs in the wet or want massive mileage, you'll not like them any more than TKC's.

Delivered!!!

Guy's,

Thought you may like to know that I got my Karoo T's today with no problems at all!!!

I never had to chase them and they got delivered on day 6 after ordering...

For me www.mytyres.co.uk did an excellent job of delivering a decent set of tyres and saved me about £60...

Of course now we are all wondering if Karoo T's are shite :augie

Karoo T's

just got a pair, the roads are still so bad around where i live i thought i'd see if a pair of these makes riding on them any better....worth a go :augie
