A question for any tall riders what adjustments have you made?

I have a 99 gs 1150 and have just done a 1600 mile round trip to scotland/nc500.
Iam 6ft 7 and found after a while I was getting uncomfortable.
Has anyone made any adjustment to their bikes like lowering the pegs back rests etc?
My bike is pretty much standard so any suggestions are much appreciated.

I raised the front seat on mine by about 10mm by making up some hard rubber spacers to place under the OE seat latches. Also replaced the footpegs with some generic chinese adjustable alloy jobbies from eBay. Made a big difference

Before I got a Corbin saddle I did the same seat mod as the Sargeant and I went with Migsel lowered footrests.

You might also want to consider up and back bar risers which can also make a big difference to your comfort.

I had pains in the legs on my first long trip (London to Glen Coe) had to ,sit on the pillion seat, fitted a footrest lowering kit and what a difference followed bu a Corbin seat and had many long trips pain free.

Getting the ergonomics of the bike sorted to suit you is likely to be a long and expensive path, but it used to be doable when the bike was newish. But sourcing the components to achieve this from the second hand sources isn’t going to be easy. But that said it can be done.

1. Foot peg lowering kit………..takes the acute bend out of the knees and increases comfort, but you run the risk of grounding the pegs at sharp lean angles

2. Torbinators to increase the height of the screen to decrease wind buffeting.

3. Add on an Xscreen to the top of the stock screen and it improves the laminar flow off the screen to smooth out the air flow and can drastically decrease buffeting.

4. Seat height……..there were, and maybe still are available different aftermarket seats available to increase or decrease your seating position.

5. There are handlebar risers to move the handle bars.

All of these are just options to experiment with to get the bike to where you want it. At 6’ 2” I’ve been down the expensive experiment route and after a few years managed to get it to that sweet spot.

One problem can be that if you lower the pegs, because this can mean they are slightly further forward, the gear lever tip is a bit too close to the peg. Especially if you have larger feet. The Touratech adjustable lever works well to fix this but now NLA.

I've used Migsel, SW Motech and Pivotpegz. Pivotpegz easily the best but for me they all needed the TT lever and my feet are a fairly average size 10.
Never grounded 'em, but then I ride like the aged gent I am...

Probably the best place to start is raising the seat and handlebar height. Do Wunderlich still do raised seats - they looked pretty good?

I’ve used both a lamb skin and an Airhawk to good effect to increase the seat height and comfort. A lot cheaper than a different seat, more ajustable and transferable. Torbinators and screen extension also makes a big difference. However compared to you I’m a shorty at 6’4”.
