For a while I've been bugging a few people about fitting aux lighting and I am glad to say, the project has now been completed.

With that goes thanks to all those who have helped - BTBR, Thunder, M1KAZ, Boxerjack, JohnP and Les Wassall and others without whose valuable advice, things would not have gone so smoothly.

I managed to source pairs of PIAA 001s and 002s and have mounted them on the ubiquitous Migsel light bar (thanks Michel, a great piece of kit). All wiring materials came from Vehicle Wiring Products. The handlebar switch is from PeakMoto but I added a 3mm led with integral resistor to give me a switch state indicator.

The relays have been mounted on 3mm aluminium plate which gives just enough room for the standard seat on low position to fit.

As with BTBRs installations, the 002s come on via the switch and the 001s with the main beam. However, I have put a socket into the 001s loom so that if in future I want to switch the 001s separately (:nenau ) they are reading to do so.

I have yet to aim the beams but from a quick look see last night (I didn't have much fuel in the tank), I will not be disappointed with the extra lumens.

Once again, thanks to all.

Andy

Hi Andy,

The lights look well cool, i have yet to do enough research to feel confident in fitting some lights myself.....

couldnt help seeing the bag on the autocom? did it also worry you about the rain/water getting in down the tank and in to the box of tricks??

also, are they touratech crash bars or standard??

To use BTBR's words, it's fairly straight forward. The worst moments are the application of side cutters to your precious bike's wiring! Just check and double check before applying pressure!

As for the Autocom, what you see is a small sheet of polythene draped over the top of the 'box'. There was a lead on the Pro7 (?radio of GPS) that was extra to requirements. When I opened the box, I didn't see any seals that would make it entirely waterproof. I am just trying to prevent water ingress.

As for the wiring job, best advice is to take the tank off. It makes the whole process so much easier, plus it has the advantage of letting you check the main engine block earth. Mine was quite badly corroded, so I removed, cleaned and greased it. The area that you cannot get at with the tank in situ was then liberally sprayed with ACF.

I am really pleased with the Peak Moto switch (with added LED). It's just the job!

forgot to say, engine bars are TT

Great job Andy, looks like all the hard work has paid off. :thumb

Out of interest where did you source the LED for the Peakmoto? Has it any specific part number?

Thnder - I'll send you an email, but for the benfit of others you can get them here http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=35738&doy=30m3 .

If you drill he centre of the little lamp motif above the switch rocker, there is just enough room to slide and fit a 3mm led down the side of the rocker assembly. When sealed and stuck in place with RTV and the soldered across the switched +ve lead and an additional earth, hey presto(!) illuminated inidcation of 'lights on'.
