Guys I'm heading off to France next May and naturally I don't want to bring the kitchen sink. I'm wondering about security and for pro theifs nothing will stop em. My question is I don't want to bring my weighty chain lock that I use for dodgy parking here but will use two disc locks. Granted the disc locks will only stall a process if someone wants my bike.......any other hints great fully accepted.

Is France a hotbed of bike theft then? Got pissed off with my Triumph Explorer in Turckheim a couple of years ago, so left it a few hours with the key in the ignition... It was still there when I went back :D

Seriously.... steering lock will be fine, disc lock to be sure.... that's all I've ever done ...If they want it that bad they'll have it away anyway:thumb2

Was it that bad - you hated it and nobody would nick it?

I get the impression that Mainland Europe is getting worse for bike theft, but the most I would ever consider as a sensible deterrent - would be an alarmed-disclock.

those things are really sensitive to movement - just buy a good quality one.

Stop washing the bike from now on and get a disk lock. Never had a issue with theft for thirty years only one French drunk using my panniers as ashtray. Hepo Becker is plastic :blast

Been going to France every year for about ten (?) years now.
ONLY time i ever had the Bike touched was near Omaha beach, Normandy. When we returned to it, it was obvious a child with an ice cream had been put on it.
Saddle and tank all sticky and gooey.
Given the crowds that day ... i suspect it was an English* child hoisted onto Bike by parent. The French have more respect.

* this comment bound to annoy someone.
DILLIGAF? :P :D

As others have said, don't sweat it. A disc lock will be fine. If in doubt, just use tact and common sense
as regards parking. If staying in hotels, most will have some form of secure parking or an area off the street.

Thanks a million fellas for replies. Appreciated. Might get another disc lock and happy days. As an aside I put a Hornig LED rear light assembly on my 07 GS. Very impressed
