A sad farewell...

In my line work I've heard all the manufacturers bullshit and twaddle re bike prices. But I still don't believe them

If you wanna bike you have to pay for it, but look at what goes into a car compared to a bike.

Is it any wonder wonder my bosses eyes glaze over whenever she hears me mention buying new bike:D

And with a car, you get 3 years warranty:D

Unit cost of a motorcycle is roughly 2.5 times its manufacturing cost, for a reasonably large producer.

.... LC owners, myself included, do like their bikes...

..... but everyone who gets one loves to spout how much better their new bike is, and that's ok? Ooh look at me, I've got a new bike and it's sooooo much better than the older shitty model .....

I gotta say ..... (sorry Flip .. :D) I just luuuuurve mine !!

My GSA was a nice bike, took me all over europe, trails, enduro events, tracks ..... great bike. But it never really set the road on fire and I was always hankering after something more from it.

This new one is feckin' awesome :D. It puts such a grin on my face and that's what I love about it. Not (specifically) the handling, the pace, the looks .... it's the laugh on a back B road, the fun I get out of it; I have found myself laughing out loud inside my lid which the GSA never had me do. (yeah yeah ... I know ... they're different bikes ... ).

Great bike :thumb2

I had a similar grin hooning an Aprilia SR125 scooter around town for 600 quid.

Like I say, it's great that you love ya new bike, but if I won the lottery I would be looking for a mint 1150SE and an early pre TC pre ESA 1200 GSA.

I need to slow down, not go faster :D

Different stroke for different folks., just don't slag off the older rides, they too were very accomplished bikes and still are.

I'd get a 690 smc for pure hooning fun .... :D

Paul, I'm cool with people enjoying their new bikes, but everyone who gets one loves to spout how much better their new bike is, and that's ok? Ooh look at me, I've got a new bike and it's sooooo much better than the older shitty model :blast

On this occasion we actually have a percentage improvement, a whole 15-20%!!!

I'm not slating the new bike, buy a new bike by all means. But just because it's newer, it doesn't mean it better for everyone.

Again, it'll be me that's the bad guy , not the guy slagging of the older model.

It's got nothing to do with hearing my own voice, it's about stopping the rot caused by the money bikers vs the guys who ride bikes and really don't give a feck what everyone else rides. As far as i'm concerned, a motorcyclist is someone you can share a beer in the pub with, a brew over a broken down bike and it doesn't matter if my bike is best or your bike is best.
What we have now is "my bikes better than yours because it's new and I spent a load of money on it, oooh and I have this years colour helmet and the latest BMW boots with fibre optic badges and dark matter toe sliders".

What happened to "hey, I'm chuffed to feck cause I've got a new bike for summer, woohoo"?

No, it's all about telling everyone how fecking awesomely brilliant the new bike is and how much better the new bike is over the old one.

Now that's repetitive and it's getting just as feckin old and tired as having to constantly write this shite to try and defend the position of those of us who are actually happy with our old shitty knackers (which is apparently anything pre WC according to the WC owners).

I hasten to add that most of the WC owners, who owned the previous models, were full of praise of the shitty old knackers when they owned them, but now they are soooo crap because the new one is soooooo much better.

The only bike I really hanker after is my old 650 Dakar which I should never have sold, strangely it's slower, handles worse and is less comfortable than my 1150, go figure!

This seems to matter way too much. High maintenance would sum you up imho. You need to let it go bud.:thumb

Maybe these are coming free with every new LC
Pat+myself+on+the+back.jpg

I want one :D

15-20% better??.

Your fooling yourself and trying to justify the change.

On a lap of a 2 min circuit are you suggesting it would be 10 - 12 seconds a lap quicker than the old bike? I don't think so. Maybe 1-2 seconds tops.
If the old bike did 45 mpg, will the new one really do 55-60 mpg? Nope

The old bike was 115bhp, according to your calculations, the new one would have to produce 132.5-138 BHP....errrr no the new bike ain't that powerful.

It is 11% heavier than the out going model though :augie:D

Enjoy :D:D:D

And there I was, thinking I was the pedant.

My posts don't come with a money-back guarantee, mate. And you're interpreting subjective opinions as objective facts.
You're perfectly entitled to attempt this, of course - but might I point out that it makes you look ever so slightly silly?
Smokescreening aside, what's your REAL gripe here?

Opinions on percentage improvement are useful, but not my deciding factor. For me (and, I suspect, nearly everyone else), the final Yea or Nay depends on how the bike in question makes me feel.
When I test-rode the LC GS, there was no blocking out that little voice in my gut that said: 'This is the bike for me'. Especially when it piped up again ten minutes later with: 'As good as my existing bikes are, I'll never be satisfied with them again after this'.

measured the grin on my face after a 60ml blast 0n my TC....3.1 cm

measured the grin on my face after a 60ml blast on my WC...4.2 cm

I think that's more than 20 percent.

Steve

I think that about sums it up. ;)

I'd say 20-25% better than my both my previous 1200 - the old hex-head was an excellent bike, the LC is excellent++ :D

You have issues baby :D

Flip has just counselled me:P

I spent an hour, looking at the new 1200GS/GSA WC at a dealer yesterday ...............and I still don't get it - I can't see £14k-15.5k of bike, in either of them:blast

It must be just me, but they are crazy money

Then they said a new SatNav was another £500, then luggage was another £1000-£1150 for a topbox and 2 panniers, then there's inner bags, a Mudsling/Crudcatcher, another £400 for a Pro Shift (in case I have forgotten how to change gear:D) and a further £700 for an Akra

So...a new full spec GSA is gonna be with all that is £18500:eek:........................FFS:blast

you don't think that if BMW were still manufacturing the 1150 GSA today that it would be any cheaper, do you?

Maybe not.......................but aleast we'd know you were getting a quality BMW Motorrad product though:D

Man, oh man... where did this come from?
Paranoid and jealous, much? Have you actually ridden an LC yet, or is this all unqualified opinion, coming out of thin air?

"just because it's newer, it doesn't mean it better for everyone".
Who said it was? I started this thread, and it certainly wasn't me.

"What happened to "hey, I'm chuffed to feck cause I've got a new bike for summer, woohoo"?"
You would have seen it in my OP if you weren't so busy walking all over it.
Incidentally, it's winter over here - and I ride year-round regardless of weather.

"It's got nothing to do with hearing my own voice, it's about stopping the rot caused by the money bikers vs the guys who ride bikes and really don't give a feck what everyone else rides."
If you want to teach every 'money biker' a lesson, you'll have negligible time left for anything else. Every person who rides a bike rides for their own reasons. Who the hell are you to try denigrating that?
I don't like 'money bikers' either, mate. But I'm a little wiser than to think I can do anything about it, other than ignore them. Take a jaunt to your local pub this Sunday, and try telling the in-law riders and tax lawyers to get off their Harleys. They'll tell you to take a flying fuck at the moon. And they'll be in the right.

Rode one, didn't like it. It reasonably fast, comfy and handles well, but hated the electronics and I felt detached and remote from what was going on and it left me cold. Obviously I am just a lunatic for not loving it as if it is the second coming, but for me it just didn't hit the spot.

It's great that you love ya WC, crack on and enjoy it, but the WC is only better than the old models if it gives you what you want, and for me it doesn't. I'm not alone. You clearly say it's 15-20% better in everyday (other than the few niggles you have with it). On paper it is a lot less better than that and as for the way it rides, well that's personal preference so is very subjective. Your happy enough to throw it out there, but god forbid if anyone should question those claims.

I see the old jealousy claim comes out again. Sorry, but listen back to yourself saying it, feck me, I could go to a dealers and sign myself up tomorrow on one, it's hardly difficult. The fact is, I could stump up enough to buy one outright if I so chose, but I have not found any bike that makes me want to. I do hanker after a mint 1150 se, but my brain says why bother because it would stop me from enjoying my riding as I would be gutted to get it dirty or drop it.

This is what you guys with WCs sound like. Substitute "ice cream van" for "new BMW GS" and this is absolutely spot on :D

I think it's time we took the bikes out of the equation, and got down to the 'Flipfly-versus-the-world' of it all.

You obviously take issue with LC owners enthusing over their bikes. Three cheers; that's your right. (Ah, to have such First-world problems.)
But if it really grates your tits so much, here's a suggestion that will make your life much easier: JUST DON'T LOOK AT IT.
Your attitude reminds me of a guy who beats the shit out of his wife, then points at her and screams: "Look what you just made me do." :tosser

The rest of us are here because we own and ride bikes, to share mutual interest and enthusiasm, and occasionally tap the collective brain pool for ways of solving problems.
I don't visit this site to watch some Asbo I've never met picking his scabs in public. I don't think anyone else does, either. Do us all a kind favour, and go piss on someone else's parade.

Mate, if someone enthusing over their new bike is your biggest problem in life, you need to get out of the house more. All that chair-warming will get you thrombosis one of these days.
Let me suggest that your first stop should be an anger-management course. :loopy

Oh, I am, Mate. I am. :moped::D

A a a a a a and breath :-D

Happy new bike Nick.health to enjoy and may it give you many miles of smiles :-)

Haha, you have a lot to learn glasshopper :D

So sorry to have criticised you putting down other peoples machinery to 'big up' your new one.

Must say I enjoyed riding my LC GSA today . Felt very connected with it . loaded it up with T Max bits I needed to pick up and gave it the berries . They may not be for everyone , but its a feckin good bike .Makes my T Max seem like a C90:thumby: Nick enjoy your bike .Flip enjoy yours .:comfort
