A Shocked TMF

All I have found so far is that "The damping action of spring struts is thus adapted at the front and rear via electrically actuated control valves." The documentation on earlier ESA versions talks about a stepper motor which I presume just does electrically what you would otherwise do with a screwdriver on the adjuster, but electrically actuated valves sounds a bit more advanced.

This article indicates that damping is controlled by a solenoid adjusted valve inside the shock, so it should have a reasonable range, though I doubt it can adjust compression and rebound separately.

You can learn it, if you want by listening to and being shown by a suspension tuner, how it all works and how to experiment

How do you think race bikes shave 1/10th of a second a lap, by altering suspension settings?

They work from a base-line and go from there

No GP bikes have ESA, if it was so good they would.................but it ain't - it's just another way for bike manufacturers to extract money profit from their bikes, when they sell them to ordinary punters like you:blast

The sachs shocks are built to a price and i wouldn't pay £180 for one never mind £1800:blast...you can make it Active, ESA, Semi Active, but its still a poor quality Shock that shouldn't be on a 16k bike, Ohlin TTX, Wilbers and Nitron are worlds better, Ditch the ESA, Buy a Base Model and get some decent susspension

Christ, this really is the thread with everything...

My 1974 model Kawasaki MT75 didn't have ABS and it was fine!

Extra complexity - not needed!

:D

As you were, carry on.

Correctamundo

However carry on letting them believe BMW that esa is best

Just take my wheezy 85bhp 1150 over the single track Moors or Borders roads and see if you need 125 bhp on a WC - with esa

Indeed, I did so a couple of years ago whilst trying to sort my VFR800 suspension out. Hours on the phone and visiting specialists. It was very interesting but also a bit frustrating as once you get past a few solid principles it all becomes opinion and disagreement is common. In the end I went with a specialist built shock on the rear and changed the springs and oil on the front. The handling was transformed but the front always remained a bit hard. I wish I could have gone down the Maxton route front and back but I was cash poor at the time. I did come across Race Tech's 'Motorcycle Suspension Bible' which is highly recommended reading if you are interested in getting your suspension right.

Happy Days !!

All stations, all stations. Update from TMF:

UPDATE 6th Feb: Just to let you know the dealer has been in contact with me tonight and has offered to fit a free replacement shock to my bike so that I get a new unit, rather than a second hand one. I'll post a video update once that has been done....

Indeed, just read it. I put a comment on the You Tube video asking him to confirm whether or not he escalated the issue to someone a bit more senior but I think he's still playing catch up with the comments section !! I like him and his videos but he's got to understand how powerful he is and if he hasn't outlined the entire exchange then it isn't fair to Bahnstormers. Equally, they could be playing serious catch up for being very silly !! I was surprised by the amount of anti-BMW comments in this thread. I am new to them over the last 18 months and two new bikes and they have been first class with warranty and non-warranty issues. But that's Coopers at Tunbridge Wells and no doubt the care varies.

I wonder if TMF is on this forum?

I doubt anyone who starts every single godforsaken video with “hey kids!” is on this forum. He might be on a Blue Peter or pepper pig forum, you never know.

Hey this is better than the Archers much more intrigue. I wish I’d been into this forum offshore but hey it’s great in my dotage of retirement. Dunno what I’d have done in the era of real old bikies. Also glad the op got it sorted, life comes right often enough to he who waits.

Because he had a tantrum on Youtube, it will be interesting to see what happens to the next bod who ends up in the same situation who is not on Youtube with a large following.

Reading the comments from the dealer on you tube it appears to be BMW who are paying.

Mistakes do happen and a big credit to the dealer for being upfront and replying.

I've heard only good about Bahnstormer. Not a customer as-such, though I did have one service there when Cooper Tunbridge Wells were down a tech or two. A chum bigs them up, er, big-time.
