Who has previously owned a GSA1150, traded it in for a GSA1200, then gone back to an 1150? And who regrets buying their 12, but stuck with it nonetheless?

I sold my standard R1150GS 18 months ago, for a brief return to sports bikes. Well, I'm still only 33 years old!!! But since doing so, I've been yearning to buy a GSA1200.....until today. Now I'm not sure.....

I have just taken out an 08 GSA for a half hour test ride from my local dealer, and although I love the look of the bike, I wasn't bowled over by it. Admittedly, 30 mins on a GS is never enough to make an informed decision, as they are quirkey anyway.... but I couldn't help feeling that despite being lighter and quicker than my old 1150GS, there was something missing from the whole equation. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, whether it was the missing weight (which, I have to say, really didn't bother me at all), or perhaps it was the lack of vibe from the engine (I did like the character of the old 1150).

Whatever it is, it's left me in a proper quandry, and knowing the reputation the new GSA has earned itself since coming out in 2006 (reliability issues, build quality etc), I'm wondering what everyone else has to say with their own personal experiences.

So, do I get a 12, or an 1150????

Comments and stories very welcome.....and banter, as per usual!:nenau

Had an 1150 GS and GSA.

Now have 1200 GSA and while I would not be disappointed with either bike you mention I prefer the 1200. Has more creature comforts and IMHO looks better although there is NOTHING at all WRONG with the 1150's style.

Both bikes Kick Ass.

Enjoy :D

I bought a new 1200 GSA - loved it but was really expensive to run - servicing etc and hoping nothing goes wrong after warranty runs out - so I went back to a R100GSPD - does mostly what the 1200 will do and just as much fun with more rider input required - ticks my boxes - whatever you get I hope it's right for you.
Good luck as the search is most of the fun.

If you didn't like the 1200 isn't this rather a pointless thread :augie:augie

I can't say I've ever regretted buying my 1200GSA, but then I've never ridden an 1100 or 1150 etc.

As for the lights I think they are awesome in comparison to my old VFR 750's which were so cr@p I often had to "use the force" on our less well lite motorways (M5 in the pouring rain anyone?), you know the ones without cats eyes or streetlights? The additional headlights are fantastic as well. Having two fogs really helps.

I wonder is it the extra bhp that you find unagreeable? Or is it the fact that it's lighter than previous models? The electronic suspension? Traction Control? Tyre pressure sensors?:nenau

I wouldn't mind a go on a previous model to compare.

Buy what you can afford, if yer skint buy an old 1100 bone, if yer got a little bit of money buy a rattly old 1150 ,but if yer minted buy a 1200 and look down on the others with a smirk:hide

P.S looking down from a breakdown truck:augie
