I always used to skip by the posts on drive shaft / gearbox failure in the hope that it would never happen to me but guess what ....... Anyway to make a long story boreing it looks like my June 06 R1200Gs with only 35 k k on the clock, input shaft has failed !! Bike is out of warranty by a year but I will be mentioning my dissapoinment that my round the world type ulitamite riding machine can not even get to 30 k miles with out something major going bang when next I am at the dealers ...

Anyway I have decided to send the bike to a small independent type mechanic and we can see how that developes ...

The silver lining ...

I was planning in taking the GS camping in Somerset for the weekend but now it looks like I will have to pull out the K1 ... And thats not a all a bad thing.:clap

did u try for a good will claim? If the bike has a good service history u might have a chance

Take the bike to a BMW dealer and provide them with your service history, ask them to inspect the bike and appraise what is wrong and submit a goodwill claim to BMW UK warranty department, if you have never been into your local BM dealer they may tell you to 'Foxtrot Oscar', but a bike's a bike and you are entitled to a goodwill claim.
So, this decision may take a few days or so to come back and on a 06 bike you might get a contribution to the total repair, they might pay for the box if you pay the labour or you might get the aforementioned 'FO'.
It's worth a go.
