A Thread to ask Micky Questions about being a Police Rider.

Police Riding Courses

Consider doing a Bikesafe course which is run by the police and in some forces assisted by the IAM and RoSPA. It will give you an idea of who to go with ie IAM or RoSPA.

BIKESAFE RIDER SKILLS DAY

Yes you won’t regret it :thumb2 I'm sure they differ slightly but to add my 2p:

Had mine a In sunny Essex, (I can’t remember if I still had my green P plate still on or not) but It started a secret:toungincheek police HQ  in there briefing/good banter room, Ok it was just a Essex police complex (boreham) but we was told there was some top secret stuff that they was working on the white board:blast 8.45am to 5.00pm on the 31st of May 2009. The bikes attending were mixed racers, some Harleys, adventure bikes, tourers

as mentioned before mixed police with police bikes as instructors and the others were varying instructors (one of the instructors was from the training school where I completed my direct access). It was two bike safe applicants to one instructor I had an instructor whom had had ridden all manner of bikes and lots of courses under his belt he offered further private tuition (most did and it’s on my mind to take more) Lunch was included in the low price, we set off on our route as locally known as the Burnham bends (nice bikers café at the end of it. It mobbed in summer and has its own webb site) yea twisties. :JB

Can’t speak for others but the first part of my ride was an assessment of our individual riding us 2 up front just relaxing (yeah right, sweating:eek) and the instructor 1 quarter way through got us to pull in for a chat about how we were riding, then off again taking us to half way was with reserved seats in the café for lunch, very nice too:thumb2 (the whole group) before which though and one to one on my own he well put me right on my riding :blast, the first reaction was I wanted to slap him:blast then I thought about what he was saying and (a bit like the misses) I thought It makes perfect sense what you’re saying and why oh why couldn’t I see it before i loved this guy, no not like that :comfort :hug :bow :bow :bow

After lunch the best was yet to come our instructor provided us with ear phones for the direct communication he put himself up front and gave running commentary of his riding why he was positioning himself, dissected the single lane into 1, 2 and 3 position, how to present yourself to see the traffic and for them to see you, why he was in 1, 2 or 3. To sum up it was kind of Giles lamby pie thin line stuff styley. with a lot of his observations thrown in.

Point is I think it improved my own personal riding skills full stop. Back to the police complex more talk and discussion, coffee and banter. I think Ide like to do another; deff got further training on my mind. Personally I’m back to bike after twenty odd years since my GT250 and no training days and my experience is just as my clock reads, just coming up to 16K, and speaking of K as Mr K states above I think something leaves us with age, well OK it creeps back now and then but we hope and pray that we ride safe.

I will say there was I guy I know here who was also attending I don’t think he had any training previous but just yonks’ of well-honed experience (like maybe many here) which I know I cannot buy or read about and instantly execute or gain. any how his assessment I believe was glowingly good. It did not surprise me yep a complete Tosser (:bow arise Sir Chad :bow)

And like you said it definitely an excuse to get out on your bike. What are you waiting for book it up you will not regret it. :D :D

I hope its of help :D

PS. Sorry to micky I honestly thought it was a mouse that just went with the Micky so I apologise profusely for the confusion and the mouse jokes. I understand now that you’re from the original Rat Pack, so erm what’s your favourite song. Me I love a bit of Dean :thumb

Orificer "Clearly you weren't paying attention"

3 points and £60 :D

1. Is the RT the current wheels of choice for the polis nowadays.?

2. I am interested in doing the IAMs training/test....is it worth it.?

3. I truly believe that police riders are the best...How do you get to that level.

I will have others...:beer::thumb

Calm down :comfort

We are not all shit riders like yourself in here so please do no class us as such :thumb2
Some of us were on the road 12hrs a day for a living, doing more miles in a rear wheel skid than most cops.
Yes I have done a bikesafe course and found it advantageous but thankfully the 2 hrs that it took did not improve my riding skills 100% that would be worrying :D

I admit I was posting to get a reaction but ffs :beerjug:

Well sorry if I reacted! just not in to copper bashing, there are good and bad coppers the same as in every walk of life. I just think extra training is worthwhile and 100% improvment is an exaggeration but it does make you think about your riding.
I not a shit rider and wasn`t suggesting any one else is, even Rossi says he learns something new every time he gets on a bike!
The enchanced course I did with Norfolk plod involved two,two hour classroom sessions and then a 5 hour ride and then there was an hour and a half assement one to one with a copper (if you wanted to do it) and everyone said how enjoyable it was.
I will shut up now in case I offend anyone else!:blagblah:beerjug:
