Being a tight git, I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money on the fancy schmancy BMW backrest for the topbox. I also didn't like the fact that the official part is screwed permanently to the box, thus preventing the box standing upright on the floor.
So, here's what I did.
First, get some furniture foam, about 15 quid fom the local market, for enough to fill the average cushion. We only need about 1/16th of this amount, hence my outrageous claims about the cost of this venture.
Next, cut a suitably sized bit of the foam, how big depends on how big you want your backrest to be!
Next, get a thick black plastic bag (I used a Tesco "Rubble Sack"), and wrap the foam in it as you would wrap a chrimbo present. Use lots of insulation tape to hold it all together, and for that classy look. Buy about 50cm of self adhesive Velcro (50p) and stick the fluffy side to the backrest.
Stick the spiky side of the Velcro to the topbox, thus:
And hey presto! A portable, detachable, waterproof backrest
My regular pillion actually claims it's pretty comfortable, but she may just be humouring me.
