Hello chaps.
I have been using the M3 / A316 for many months into London, and I knew where the Gatso cameras were located. As a result of a shoulder injury I had to stop riding Sad until said injury was healed.

As of this week back on the bike Very Happy but found myself in the avg speed camera zone on the A316; riding in a spirited fashion

Has anyone fallen foul of these beasts? I fear the worst....

shit !!! that really does suck. Only found out the A40 was avg speed after going up it 'spiritedly' but nothing ever came of it. Im so glad they just replaced the cameras on the A3 for GATSO types, which hopefully means they wont do the avg speed any time soon as that would seriously cock up my commute, and every other person that uses that road.

They run from where the M3 finishes all the way to the Hogarth roundabout !!! Also dont be fooled, although most of the Gatsos have gone they have left one or two in situ, e.g. where the M3 becomes the A316.

I am just hoping that they have not yet been commissioned...wing and a prayer :blast

i went up the 316 a couple of weeks ago to the Kempton auto jumble, the big avg speed cameras (like road works ones?) had signs saying 'camera not in use' at the time.

I saw'em yesterday for the first time and was wondering what the hell they where....

well that take the fun out of going into town late

The ones on the A40 from Paddington elevated section out initially resulted in everyone crawling along at 42 mph. However over the weeks the speeds have crept back up. Average is probably 55 mph on the elevated, and not much less on clear bits of the A40 out past Shepherds Bush.

I was actually going to post asking if anyone had heard of someone getting a NIP on the A40? Maybe they don't work yet, or have a very high tolerance?

Most average speed cameras are forward facing so don't affect bikes. I've never had a problem going through motorway road works with forward facing average at more than the limit when there was no traffic around. Many of the new type speed cameras on the M25 are small grey boxes hidden out of site. Oh well, when everyone who works has been banned for driving a few MPH over the very low limit and no longer able to work and pay tax, maybe the politicians will re-think fleecing the motorist. What really amused me was John Prescott being banned from driving for speeding.
