A86 Spean Bridge to Laggan.

What a fantastic road! did it for the first time today on a fully loaded up 1150GS with the missus following her on her brand new ER6F. Fairly spirited ride too it was!
Now in a B&B in Aviemore. Superb. Quick shower then off for a walk into town for some grub!

It's ok but it is just another A road. It's not exactly challenging. I think the last time along there was a steady ton-ten, ton fifteen, chasing my late friend Dave on his VTec.

Well we enjoyed it anyway! it's a lot better than any of the A roads back down in sunny Norfolk that's for sure!

Even better in 1st week of May, when the SSDT is on and you have to encounter 30mph Trials bikes among the potholes

Last did it on my 1100Rs. It had been recently resurfaced (10years ago ish). Very little dead ground and well radiused corners make for a great ride. The previous time was different: on a 100RS coming round the corner into Spean Bridge, was met with a timber lorry overtaking a bus! Had to take the off road escape route!

Well, I can highly recommend Roo's Leap restaurant in Aviemore too!

Not a bad road.
if you want to stray off the A9 ( which I do at every opportunity ) try the back road to Dalwhinnie. not a great length but it get you off the drag of the A9 and has a few nice twisties.

I generally do Farr/Garbole,Tomatin,Slochd summit,Carrbridge, Aviemore, Kingussie, Newtonmore, Dawhinnie, all on the back road,then back on to the A9
Give it a whirl anyway

I live at one end of it so ride along it quite often and would say it's a bit more than just another A road. And, for me, it's more about the series of corners than getting to 100 plus. Challenging? The camper van can create that!
And nice scenery.
One of those roads that if I need to go and get a pint of milk in the afternoon of a nice day I may just nip down to the fort or Roy Bridge for it.

Aye, it's ok. It was interesting the last time I was on it, discovering that if you flip-flop a GS at 100 +, the air gets under the beak and the front end goes a bit light. Personally, I prefer goat tracks and other roads that are more challenging to ride but each to their own.

The Laggan road is fantastic, did it in both directions a week ago and continued up to Kinloch Hourn.

As stunning scenery as anywhere in the world.

There was an unmarked white 1 series and a marked motor working down by wolftracks, only fly in the ointment.
