Hi, Looking forward to being a regular on the site! - I'm near the final stages of negotiating the purchase of a R1200GS (new). My main question is, when it gets to the final numbers, what are the chances of getting some discount off the dealer?? (and how much might they give???) I'm looking at trading in a '99Fireblade and paying the rest cash (been doing lots of overtime!). Any advice?? Many thanks. CB

The new 2008 Gs'es are being launched about now, so there may be deals to be had on 07 models still in the showrooms. With that in mind you should be able to be pretty agressive in your dealing.

Good luck with it. :thumb2

Definately sell the blade private. BMW dealers always give bottom rates for jap bikes. Don't suppose you're going to get much discount on a newly released bike.

Agree with the above. Sell your bike privately (sold my CBF1000 in 2 days on ebay for about £850 more than dealer offered in trade) Also, there are a lot of fully loaded 2007 BMW management owned GS's about through the dealers. These can be negotiated and are good deals...I know 'cause I recently bought one with only 1000 mls on it and at a very good price. You'd be very lucky to get any discount / extra's etc on a new bike. Save yourself a good few grand...good luck:thumb

You wont get a good px price and discount sell you bike then ask for discount.I went to mill in boldon sunderland (cooper) and they offerd me 4500 px i then put my bike on the web and got 6000 for it and had more than 14 buyers contact me.I then went back but did not get offerd any discount. I Picked up the phone to southport super bikes (bmw dealer with 10 times more stock to choose from ) and got a cracking deal try it it works.

Hi Colin, welcome to UKGSer.

Just going to shift your post over to another section of the forum for you where I think you might get more responses .....

Sell the FB privately, from experience you'll not get the true value trading it in.

Enjoy your stay with us :)

Welcome to the site Colin. :thumb.
I have to agree with everyone, sell the blade privately.
Try Autotrader only about 15 quid for a two week web insert with multipull photos, really easy to use. I`ve sold my last 2 bikes by this method and hav`nt been dissapointed.
Anyway mate all the best with the GS, you definately won`t be dissapointed with it. :thumb

Hi, thanks to everyone for the welcome and the advice. I agree, selling the blade privately is the way to go. I would welcome any advice on current recommended protocol of selling a bike privately?? I just have a vision of someone test riding it off into the sunset, never to be seen again!! CB
