In Spain about to cross in to Portugal. All is well except for the ZUMO 550 which has given up the ghost. It switches on and goes to the start up screen - then to loading maps - then switches off. Tried removing and fitting battery, tried resetting via bottom right hand side of screen when switching on but to no avail.

Anyone got any ideas apart from buy lots of maps!

I am placing here as thought it would get more exposure and i would really like some help to get this sorted as I have alrady spent 2 hours lost around Leon!

Cheers

mine too!

I hate to say it but buy lots of maps....mine did a similar thing all around spain and portugal earlier this summer...couldn't find sattelites on the the ruta del plata which has got to be one off the flattest roads in europe...it went back to garmin when i got home...replaced free off charge (again) it looks as if you've done all the roadside quickfixes...maps it is then.

Does it behave the same when out of the cradle? May be no more dramatic than some dodgy pins, worth checking!

Could it be that you aren't getting power to the cradle, causing your garmin to run on the internal battery and thus flattening it?

Still hoping

Thanks for replies to date
. Same symptom on of off cradle both with full battery . If anyone near vila real wants to sell me their zumo then let's know!

I had this problem a couple of years ago and it was the batteries which were fecked.

My advice is bin the zumo for the holiday, we've managed for many years without the feckin things:augie

Buy some good maps, look for the wiggly bits and have a great time.

Mine did it the last 3 days in the states. I was gutted to start with but just follow your nose and you will find things your Zumo never would.
Good luck

One idea:

If you have MP3 files:

@ Skygod - I am aware that you had music (MP3s?) - cracking ride-report by the way - and this could also have been your fault reason.

Take out the SD card and see what happens. It is most likely a corrupt MP3 file that is detected while the Zumo is indexing all the MP3 files.

If the MP3 files are on the main unit, if you can - temporarily remove them.

I regularly get this issue, and do have music on an SD card, and removing the SD card made no difference to getting it going.

The only thing that resolved was a full reset.

OP has already tried the re-set procedure so I thought MP3 files corrupting the system might be worth a try :thumb2

What's the weather like?:) raining here... again:(

Don't need a sat nav now!

Awaiting international rescue to arrive to a tiny village on n112 as battery gone. Only six months old. Jumps ok from friendly local but won't run properly as I guess too much electronics and brake calcs to allow alternator to power alone. Only saving grace is that 112 is the best road in the world and replaces - the previous one pai to Chiangmai!
