ABR Ireland weekend in Glengarriff, Co Cork

Not long back from a great long weekend away.
Thursday - leaving from N.Ireland, headed south on the A27 to Newry, then followed the Newry canal, crossed the border at Omeath and continued through Carlingford.
Followed the R176 & 173 & onto the M1.
South on the M1 & onto the M50
Off at J12 and left onto Ballycullen Rd (Woodstown village).
Left onto the R113 & right onto the R115
Coffee stop at Timbertrove Cafe

A nice spot with a good selection of food.

Continued on the R115 through Sally Gap


Continued down to Laragh & a stop at the Wicklow Heather for lunch

After lunch I sent some time exploring the area

Vale of Clara was a lovely spot.
Glendalough was looking lovely as usual

Was waiting on a mate who was coming off the Holyhead/Dublin ferry later so gad a bit of time to kill. A bit of fishing just south of Laragh - no joy, but a lovely spot - glad the couple of hogs were on the opposite bank - looked like there was a bit of wild boar in their genes!

Joined by Chris on his Harley and back to the Wicklow Heather for dinner.
Turkey & Ham for me & Irish Stew for Chris - excellent - I always stop here when I'm in the area, and it never fails to impress.


Then off to a local B&B in Greenan for the night.

Friday morning & after breakfast we went our separate ways - Chris wanted to visit the Waterford Crystal factory & the Harley Davidson shop there. I set my sat nav for Killarney - we would meet up later in Glenarriff. Roads worthy of note were the R747, 748 & 746. From there it was various roads across Ireland and a bit of motorway.
Goes without saying the N71 from Killarney to Glenarriff was great.


A quick fill up at the filling station in Glenarriff which probably has one of the best views in Ireland.


Then onto the campsite, which soon filled up


Perfectly located on the WAW about a mile south of Glenarriff. On site bar included.

Around 29 turned up & the weather was looking promising for the weekend.

Its a lovely part of the world the Beara Peninsula. Theres a particularly challenging little L road that runs from Releigh Bridgen (halfway to Kenmare) to Dawra which is always a bit of fun. That and the Dursey Island cable car at the end of the penninsula.

Sure is Mzokk, nearly sure that road was included in the Saturday ride out.
Anyway Saturday morning and the weather could not be better

A quick fill up at the filling station in Glenarriff which probably has one of the best views in Ireland.

At the risk of being somewhat of a pedant are you confusing Glenarriff in Co Antrim with Glengarriff in Co Cork?
There's more than distance and spelling between the two.

Oops - yes Glengarriff In Co Cork - my bad - hope to do a bit more of the trip tomorrow- hopefully the spelling will improve a bit!

Most opted for the ride out round the local area which was to include a bit of un-surfaced. Chris & me headed off on more suitable roads for the HD.
A right out of the campsite and onto the WAW, then up the Healy Pass

Then continued North on the R573 & a coffee stop at Helens Bar & Restaurant - stunning location for a stop

Continued North then inland to Gleninchaquin Park, again, stunning

Back out onto the R573 and round to Kenmare then south on the N71

Through Glengarriff and another coffee at Ouvane Falls Inn

Up to Gougane Barra for a quick look

Then a stop at Carriganass Castle

Came across this fledgling (Robin??) in one of the castles windows

Ended up in Bantry for a food stop - we both had seafood chowder in O'Connors which was excellent.
Back to Glengarriff, and a stop at the petrol station, where we had the largest 99's ever!

Back up at the bar at the campsite & everyone had a great day on the ride out.
Mzokk - I think this is the road you mentioned earlier ??

Not often you get the weather as good as that though…
